David and Marion were dear friends of our parents Al and Nancy Johnston in Florence, AL, and through the years. His thoughtfulness and beautiful manners made a lasting impression, and he had a fun sense of humor, too. My brothers and I offer our condolences to John, Stephen, and to all who loved David. Mr. Kearley was my rector at St. Bartholomew's in Florence when I was a young teenager. I remember his quiet demeanor and kind attention. Later, when I was a graduate student at Peabody, we had lunch together because he heard I was there and called me. I was so touched! He was a lovely man who was also an important figure in my early church life. I am very thankful for his life and service.

I never got to meet David, but I have seen the living and living legacy he leaves through his son John, with Molly and Sam. What a gem he must have been, and his love lives on!
