George Knight passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 3, 2015 at the age of 65 years. He was predeceased by his parents Jim and Lillian. George will be missed by his best friend, high school sweetheart and wife of 44 years, Diane (nee Lacourciere); son Adam (Ester); daughter Jennifer (Shaun) Bellefeuille; five grandchildren: Alaina and Taliya Knight, and Dryden, Kaden and Caleb Bellefeuille; siblings Gloria (Doug), Myrna, Howard, Harold and their families; sister-in-law Rhonda (Harley) and their daughter Andrea (Joey) and children; brothers-in-law Raymond and Tom; and many other family members. George worked as a Chartered Accountant for 37 years, receiving his professional designation in 1978. George and Diane moved to Dalmeny from Regina in 1978 and in 1980 George opened a Chartered Accountants office in Dalmeny, which they operated until 1996. During their 18 years in Dalmeny, George served as President of the Board of Trade and as the Mayor and Town Councilor from 1981 to 1990. They returned to Regina in 1996; George opened Knight Chartered Accountant which he operated for the past 18 years. He operated Knight Motorsport Collectables for six years. In addition to accounting, George's life revolved around the sport of drag racing. From the first race George and Diane attended as spectators in 1972, they were hooked. They remained spectators until 1986 when they constructed their first car and began racing at Saskatchewan International Raceway (SIR) in Saskatoon in 1987. The rest, as they say, is history. They raced at events across 16 tracks in western Canada and the northern USA receiving many top and second place finishes. George served as a volunteer financial and business advisor to the Saskatchewan Drag Racing Association and was named SDRA Member of the Year in 1992. In 2004, with the Superstreet Barracuda tired and needing a complete rebuild, George and Diane took a hiatus and found a fixer-upper cottage where they relaxed during the summers. This only lasted as long as it took to get the cottage redone; they were back racing full-time in 2009. In 2011, George and Diane were delighted when their granddaughters Alaina and Taliya joined them in the sport. George would be overjoyed to see his grandsons Dryden, Kaden and Caleb follow his path in the future. George was a dedicated son, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He took great pleasure in his work and counted his clients as friends. George was highly respected for his integrity and knowledge as an accountant and as a racing enthusiast. He will be missed. A CELEBRATION OF GEORGE'S LIFE will be held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Donations in memory of George may be made to the Allan Blair Cancer Centre, 4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, SK S4T 7T1.
