David Laing Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 27 to Oct. 30, 2009.
MORIAH — David "Dave" Laing, 59, was called home into the arms of our Lord suddenly on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at his home in the presence of his family.

Born in Ticonderoga, Oct. 22, 1950, he was a life long resident of Moriah, N.Y. Dave was an avid outdoorsman, loved to spend time on Blanchard Mountain hunting, fishing and trapping. He also enjoyed small projects around the house.

He was a graduate of Moriah Central School, Class of 1969 and attended Paul Smith's College. He worked at various construction projects to include The Egg in Albany, the South Mall, International Paper's Ticonderoga Mill, and the Gilboa Power Project. He owned and operated Laing Logging Inc. for almost 20 years. He later worked for A.P. Reale & Sons and Crown Point Equipment for the past 19 years.

His greatest enjoyment was his family, especially his grandson, David Matthew Laing.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Ruth (Bryant) Laing. He is also survived by his parents, Freddie and Margaret (Lee) Laing; a sister and brother-in-law, Phylis and Brian Wilsey of Gansevoort, N.Y., and his sister, Rebecca Laing of Moriah; two children, Freddie Laing and wife Marissa Laing of Moriah and Daniel Laing and his companion Stephanie Popp and dog Baxley, also of Moriah; one grandson, David Matthew Laing; and many aunts, uncles; nieces, nephews; and cousins. He is also survived by a very special aunt and uncle, Ursula and Hookie Laing of Moriah. He is survived by his mother and father-in-law, Colleen and Charles Bryant of Port Henry; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann and Charles Cotey of Norwood, N.Y., Daniel Bryant and his companion Brenda Baker of Port Henry, Charles and Marie Bryant of Port Henry, Edward and Sue Bryant of Port Henry, Alice and John Sadallah of New Hartford, N.Y., Kevin Bryant and his fiancée Elena Snavely of Long Beach, Calif., Timothy and Irina Bryant of Port Henry, Colleen Bryant and Joseph Bryant of Guilderland, N.Y., and Mary Bryant of Glastonbury, Conn.

Dave touched many hearts and was a friend to all that knew him.

There will be no calling hours at Dave's request. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Port Henry, N.Y. Friends and relatives may gather at the K of C Hall in Port Henry, N.Y., following the Mass.

Donations in Dave's memory may be made to Town of Moriah Ambulance Squad, the Moriah Fire Department, St. Patrick's Church of Port Henry, N.Y., or Moriah Methodist Church of Moriah, N.Y.

Above all things, be faithful to the
present moment, doing one thing at a time, and you will receive all the grace you need. Fenelon

In the grip of the mystery of God's providential dealings with us...our resting place...is "I do not know, but, I know that God knows." Murray

I am thankful that I was able to see and talk with Uncle Dave at the last get together at Aunt Ursula's and Uncle Ervin's. He joked with me much like I remember from when I was little. I remember Uncle Dave as being kind, sitting on the floor with me at Christmas or my Birthday; playing with my toys. Thank you for being such a good Uncle to me when I was young.

Dear David, our beloved son. You left us so suddenly on that dark night. We never expected it, but the Lord knew it was time for Him to bring you to Heaven with Him. Thank you for leaving the wonderful memories of you that we will hold in our hearts until we're with you again. We love you so much, honey--mom and dad

DAVE, MY BROTHER. I HURT SO MUCH FOR THOSE LOST YEARS, BUT AM SO GLAD THAT GOD ANSWERED MY PRAYERS, AND BROUGHT US ALL BACK TOGETHER, EVEN IF IT WAS JUST FOR A TOO SHORT TIME. I WILL MISS YOU FOR THE REST OF MY DAYS.I LOVE YOU, BECKY

"Be still, my soul: When dearest friends depart,
And all is darkened in the vale of tears,
Then shalt thou better know His love, His heart,
Who comes to soothe thy sorrow and thy fears.
Be still, my soul: thy Jesus can repay
From His own fullness all He takes away." (Katharina VonSchlegel)

How kind of our Heavenly Father to restore to us our brother as our "dearest friend" before the day He had appointed that David was to enter Eternity. We got to know Dave as a contented, compassionate, sentimental man who exuberantly loved and enjoyed his family, patiently and with marvelous humor enduring the affliction from which he fully expected to recover.

While we shall always wish we had had more time to better know our brother, we do praise and thank Jesus for the time He gave, and for the opportunity now to share in the lives of the loved ones Dave so delighted in.

"'Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.'" (Jesus Christ; Matthew 11:28)

Dave you will be missed....you watched me grow up. I will never forget when you would call and say you were my favorite brother in law, when in fact you were my only brother in law at the time...Watch over us Dave.

Ruth, Freddie/Marissa,Digger/Steph & all loved ones: I first met Dave as a young boy working with Craig Tolosky at our hot dog stand Genes. One night, as he had us both cracking up at the counter, my Father leaned around from his area to "correct us" until he saw it was Dave Laing; then my Dad just joined in. That was your husband and Dad to me; fun, happy and one of the nicest gentlemen I have ever known. I will keep Dave and all you in my prayers..
