Dr. David C. Laubach, 75, of Kutztown, died Friday, February 13, 2015 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Glenda C. (Crist) Laubach, whom he married June 21, 1968.
Born in Danville, Montour County, he was a son of the late Joseph B. and Melva (Kyle) Laubach.
Dr. Laubach was a member of Saint John's United Church of Christ, Kutztown.
A 1956 graduate of Benton High School, Benton, Columbia County, David continued his education at Bloomsburg University, where he received both a Bachelor's degree, in 1960 and a Master's degree in 1966. In 1985, he completed his Doctorate at the University of Massachusetts.
Dr. Laubach had taught English for 55 years: Chairman of the English Department at Loyalsock Township High School, Fulbright exchange teacher at St. Nicholas School in England, Director of English at the Westfield Public Schools in Massachusetts, Supervisor of English Curriculum at Colonial School District, Plymouth Meeting, and Associate Professor of English at Kutztown University, Kutztown.
An author, David had published several articles on English education and folklore and presented over forty papers to conferences. For twenty years, he wrote the column "On Film" for New Mass Media's newspapers in Amherst, Springfield, Hartford, and New Haven. He had published a young adult novel, Growing Up Amish, a textbook, Introduction to Folklore. His latest work, Witches & Rebels two novellas from Pennsylvania history.
David enjoyed football and baseball, especially the Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles. He was also a music lover, enjoying many genres, especially bluegrass. He was a very loving and gentle husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors: Wife, Glenda; daughters, Kristi A. Laubach, companion of Ryan M. Wetherhold, Lenhartsville and Karina J. (Laubach) wife of Troy A. Sarge, Reading. Other surviors include a sister, JoAnne (Laubach) wife of Dennis Robinson, Fredericksburg, VA; brother, Claude E. Laubach, Benton, PA. There are also two grandchildren, Vincent S. Sarge and Giavanna M. Sarge.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. from Saint John's United Church of Christ, 257 West Walnut Street, Kutztown, with Reverend Michael W. Beynon, officiating. Interment in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown, will be private. Relatives and friends may call Thursday afternoon from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. in the church.
The family requests contributions be made to Saint John's United Church of Christ Memorial Fund, 257 West Walnut St., Kutztown, PA 19530. Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., Kutztown, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be recorded at www.ludwickfh.com.
