David Loving III Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 10, 2024.
Obituary:

David Leroy Loving III, born on November 2, 1943, in San Antonio, Texas, peacefully passed away on March 31, 2024, in Waxahachie, Texas, at the age of 80. David, known for his off-beat sense of humor and quick wit, balanced with tolerance and kindness, always maintained an unwavering optimism about life. Ever driven by intellectual and artistic curiosity, he was a history buff, student of Latin, amateur photographer, lover of storytelling and cinema, and an extremely talented musician who played in many bands in the Dallas area throughout his life.

He had a great love for adventure. As a young man, he was active in sports including soccer, racquetball, cycling, sailing, and golf. Later in life, he could be found sailing in the Gulf of Mexico with his brothers, boating and inner tubing with his grandkids, and cycling the highways of Ellis County.

David pursued higher education at the University of North Texas and the University of Texas School of Law. He dedicated over 50 years to a career as an attorney, tirelessly working for the disadvantaged and championing for the underdog. He spent the past few decades before retirement as Managing Attorney of Legal Aid of Northwest Texas.

Most of all, David was a caring and supportive friend, brother, father, husband and grandfather. David is survived by his wife Dixie; brothers Dr. William (Heather) and John (Alice); daughters Emily (Charlie) and Catherine (Stu) and grandsons Gavin and Grayson; stepson Richard (Jenifer) and grandchildren KC and Dillon; great-aunt Mary Martha Oles; and sister-in-law Laura. As well as several, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and lifelong friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents David Leroy Jr and Jane; brother Steve; sister-in-law Paula and beloved dog Gizmo.

A ceremony to honor and celebrate David's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on April 20, 2024, at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 11122 Midway Road, Dallas, TX 75229. David Leroy Loving III will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

I remember him well back in the days our office was called Legal Services of North Texas. He was a blast to hang around, and fought long and hard for his clients.

My earliest memory of my grandfather would be when I was tiny, and he was playing with me and the dogs. I was just a young toddler, and I was terrified of animals. He always made sure I felt safe and enjoyed life to the fullest. I'm saddened to see him gone, but I will never forget the greatness he is.

All the jokes he told at band practice. He´d clap his hands, rub them together, and you knew a great joke or story would be next.

Since neither of us had ever played hooky, we decided to skip speech class at the end of our senior year of high school. The speech teacher found us in the music room and laughed with us. We laughed again, 50+ years later.
