David Lowy Obituary

David S. Lowy, 70, of Beach Park, died June 6, 2007 at Arbor View Nursing Home in Zion.

David was born October 21, 1936 in Waukegan, and lived in San Diego, California, Minnesota, and Oklahoma. He received a bachelor's degree in Music History from Northern Illinois University. He married Rita Swanson on January 6, 1992 and was a member of the Desert Springs Baptist Church in Las Vegas, NV.

David worked in advertising, insurance and most recently in private security. He was a member of the American Legion, having served in the United States Army from January 1960 until March 1962. David also served as a Chaplain assistant to Rabbi Harold Kushner. He enjoyed classical music, especially Mozart. He sang with the Northern Illinois University Men's Glee Club, appearing on the Ed Sullivan Show among many others.

David is survived by his wife, Rita (Swanson) Lowy; one son, Barry ( Michele) Lowy of Springfield, IL; three step-children, Dawn Karatjas of Boston, MA, Georgia (Christoff) Buys of Naperville, IL, Peter Karatjas of Naperville, IL; two grandchildren, Abe and Josh Lowy of Springfield, IL; five step-grandchildren, Alexandria Leonard of Australia, Nick Leonard of Michigan, Jessica and Phillip Buys of Naperville, IL, and Eliza Karatjas of Chicago, IL; two brothers, Louis (Jean) Lowy of Waukegan, and Ray (Pat) Lowy of Olympia Fields, IL; and four nephews, Michael (Jenny) Lowy, Joseph Lowy of Colorado, and John and Brian Lowy both of Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie (nee Hanson) Lowy in 1985; and his parents, Bella (nee Bornstein) and Joseph Lowy.

Services will be private for the family. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Joliet, IL. Please sign the online guest book at www.congdonfuneralhome.com.
