My Grandpa (Robert Malchow from Windsor Ontario)was David's Brother. My heart goes out to the family and friends. I was interested to know that he was a socail worker, I currently work in group home for special needs people, and the love job. I would have love to met David, sounded like an interesting man.

David was a great colleague when we worked together at Lions Gate Hospital until his early retirement and departure to India in 1992. With his generosity, booming laugh and biting wit he was greatly missed when he left. One of his lasting achievements was his lead role with the Marineview Housing Society developing much needed safe and affordable housing on the North Shore for the mentally ill. We never did manage to visit him in India but always enjoyed getting together with him when he visited Vancouver and it was clear that he was extremely happy and fulfilled with his life there. We send our sympathies to his family. He was a great man.

I am Pamela Post.
I was one of David Malchow's 18 nieces and nephews....and one among all 18 who will likely claim him as my favourite uncle.
He was a kid at heart, and when my young, handsome uncle came to visit, it was like we had an older brother to play and kibitz with, to our hearts content.
He made us all feel like we were his most special nieces and nephews. I can remember him bringing my sister, Robyn and I, beautiful stringed marionettes from Mexico, stunning silk fans from Hong Kong...him teaching me at the age of 9 something of the tonal language of Mandarin Chinese, after his years of living in Hong Kong. Mostly, he taught me from his simple, joyful, loving demeanor, and his world travels...that life is an adventure, there to be explored, discovered, and enjoyed. And how good it is to be of service to others. I will always remember my young at heart uncle, who had the deep, baritone laugh, that made his adam's apple quiver...and who always looked at you like you were the most important person in the world in that moment.
Quite a feat for a man who never had his own children!

What a wonderful legacy, and one we can all learn from. God Bless you Uncle David, on your latest travels to the cosmic realms, where you will likely continue to enjoy everyone you meet, and help everyone you can.

I worked with David in the mid-eighties, enjoyed his warm, unassuming manner and admired his ability to move beween cultures so readily. His commitment to improving living conditions for mental health clients was familiar to me: his generosity in India only increases my respect for him. A wonderful human being.

My Deepest Sympathy to all the family. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

We have so many wonderful memories of time spent with David both in British Columbia and in India. We will miss his stories and his great sense of humour!
