David Manahan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 20, 2016.
David E. Manahan passed away April 11, 2016, at United Health Hospital in St. Paul after a brief illness.

David was born Sept. 28, 1951, to Maurice and Theresa Manahan. He graduated from Chosen Valley High School and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota. On Dec. 3, 1977, he married Jody Pucker. They made their home St. Paul, where David worked as an electrical engineer, most recently for Medtronics.

Dave was a motorcycle enthusiast, which led him to be the founder of the Norton Owner Cycle Club.  Dave enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies such as music, carpentry, refurbishing cycles, building detailed model cars and fireworks. One of his favorite pastimes was taking weekend rides with his friends and fellow cycle enthusiasts to Wisconsin, with scheduled stops at their favorite restaurants, local attractions and scenic overlooks. His unique perspective on life and sense of humor will be missed by all.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Jody; mother, Theresa; brothers, Matthew (Sharon), Jerome (Barb) of Chatfield and Steven of Rochester; sisters, Jean (Scott) Winslow of Fountain; Irene (Dennis) Chicos of Eagan and Sara (Mike) Braun of Elgin; sister-in-law, Sherry Manahan of Chatfield as well as many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by father, Maurice; brother, Kevin; and nephew, Adam Winslow.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 22, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 405 Bench St. SW, Chatfield. The family will receive condolences one hour prior to the service.

Our thoughts are with Jodi and the Manahan family. We usually saw David at the Western Days picnic at Gary Andersons'. For many years Dave handled the fireworks-- a real good time. We will miss him..

There are many high-school-days memories of riding motorcycles around Chatfield, with "Big Dave" leading the way. In particular, I remember Dave pulling some amazing wheelie stunts on Main Street. And trying to keep up with Big Dave's riding skills was not possible speeding around the curves heading out west of Chatfield on Hwy 74. Big Dave was an easy person to be friends with, that's for sure. I am so glad now, that I was able to talk with Dave at our last class reunion, he will be missed. My deepest sympathy to Mrs. Dave Manahan and all of Dave's family. Jerry Finley (Class of 1969).
