David Lee McDaniel

David Lee McDaniel, born February 20, 1939, in Meredosia, Illinois, and the youngest son of George and Irene McDaniel, passed away at the age of 85 on May 9, 2024, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His life's journey concluded with the dignity and grace that marked his many years.

A patriot at heart, David honorably served in the United States Navy, defending the freedoms cherished by the nation. Upon completion of his service, he returned to civilian life and applied the discipline and skills he acquired in the military to a career as a proficient auto mechanic. David eventually retired from ABF as a respected diesel mechanic. His generous spirit led him to spend much of his retirement ensuring that vehicles, including the local church buses, were in top working condition for his community members.

David's leisurely pursuits reflected the tranquility he found in nature and the simple joys of life. He was often found by a serene lake, rod in hand, enjoying the peaceful pastime of fishing. Additionally, he occasionally indulged in the excitement of the casino, embracing the thrill of chance.

A family man through and through, David leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his three daughters, Anita Leinheiser, Tamara Klimaj, and Kimberly McDaniel. Sister in law Barbara and Husband Wilfred Lang. His life was further blessed with the joy of his 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his memory with fondness. He now joins his beloved wife, Martina McDaniel, who preceded him in death.

A traditionalist in his beliefs about remembrance, David would have appreciated contributions to the Disabled American Veterans of New Mexico in lieu of floral tributes.
