Fifty years later, they were feted as the Grand Marshals of the annual 4th of July Parade in Belmont, Nevada, where they loved to celebrate their "Independence Days". Minedew was past Director of Environmental Health Services for the Washoe County District Health Department and Chairman of the State Board of Registered Environmental Health Specialists. He was Supervisor of the Department of Defense Branch of the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection and a Biology teacher at Carson High School. He co-owned Environmental Services Ltd. and owned Minedew Enterprises. He was a Registered Environmental Health Specialist, Realtor, and Consultant. He taught classes for the Nevada Real Estate Division, Realty 500 and was a guest lecturer at the University of Nevada, Reno.

He was a past President of the Washoe County Management Club and The Reno Jaguar Club. He was also Treasurer of the Zephyr Cove Property Owners Association and the Reno Jaguar Club. He was an original trustee of the Reno High School Alumni Association and contributed efforts in having the Reno High School Alumni Center built. His interests included boating, fishing, restorations, genealogy, history, camping, cooking, and socializing with friends and acquaintances. Dave loved conversation, cocktails and campfires. He wanted to be remembered as a considerate person. Dave was preceded in death by his father Gilbert J. Minedew, beloved mother, Gwendolyn T. Minedew, and brother, Gilbert D. (Dan) Minedew. Surviving are his wife Sunny, son Christopher J. Minedew, (Julie) grandsons Benton David Minedew and Nathan James Minedew. "As long as you remember me, I am alive." Dave will always live in my memory as a true gentleman and an outstanding drummer. He played in a combo at Reno High that included, as I recall, Tom Lee (piano), Curtis Freemont (trombone), and Paul Smith (trumpet). Those guys played some great jazz.

I will miss seeing Dave at the Reno High reunions.

My condolences to Dave's family.

My deepest condolences and greatest thoughts go out to Sunny and the whole Mindew family, and extended family. Dave was an old family friend of my parents who I grew up knowing, and was always a sweet, kind, and funny man. May you all take comfort in the love and friendship surrounding you, and may the memories forever be the light at the end of this dark tunnel.

Chris, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Your dad sounds like an amazing man. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

June 15, 2015

David Minedew was a wonderful, patient teacher who liked kids. He tolerated AND spurred my unfocused ninth grade ambition. His class, however, was not an easy 'A'. Am very sorry that one of my teacher inspirations has passed on; he will not be forgotten.

The last time I saw him, at the 1989 Class Reunion, he remembered me and was as friendly and encouraging as ever.

Mr. Minedew, this toast is for you. Thank you for helping show me the way.

Jon Roanhaus, Carson High School 1966-1968.

I am saddened to hear of the loss of Dave. He was a really nice guy and very kind to me. I met him when I joined the Board of Directors for the Reno High School Alumni Association. He was pretty funny at times. He had known my dad through state service so he knew my background. I will sure miss talking to him at the triennial class reunions. My sincerest sympathy to the family.

Dave has to be the longest-serving class president in history: 55 years! He was the spirit behind the monthly luncheons for members of the RHS Class of '60 and also for all of our reunions. Golly, Dave, we will miss you., but you're out of pain now. It's our pain that continues along with Sunny's and your family's.
