David Michael Mlodzik

Born July 8,1961 in Detroit, MI and died April 27,2025 at his home in Berkeley, CA after a four-year fight with prostate cancer.

David is survived by his wife, Lynnette Orme; children, Katherine and Alexis Mlodzik; his father John (Emily) Mlodzik, and stepsiblings Suzanne and Steve Sutton. He is survived by in-laws Ann, Stephan, and Christine Orme and Jeff Witt. He was preceded in death by his mother, Suzanne Mlodzik, and brother, John Mlodzik.

David grew up in Detroit and knew from an early age that he wanted to be an architect. He graduated from the University of Michigan (Go Blue!) with a degree in Architecture and many lifelong friends. He went on to have a successful career in architecture - primarily working with computer aided design systems (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.) at various firms in Arizona and California. He taught AutoCAD and Revit classes for the City College of San Francisco. He was generous with his knowledge and loved to mentor and teach.

He grew up in a musical household and taught himself to play bass with his brother and friends. Music was a lifelong passion (he met his wife at the 1994 Strawberry Bluegrass Festival). A natural musician, he was able to join virtually any jam session and lock in right away. He continued to play acoustic and electric bass with his friends until the very end.

Nothing brought David more pride and joy than his two daughters and his dog Sampson (who died 2022). He attended and photographed every one of the kids' events and field trips and had a strong repertoire of bad dad jokes and puns. The happy family trips he chronicled will be a balm to us going forward.

He will be missed for his kindness, compassion, and generosity of spirit - we joked that he never went out without meeting a new best friend. And we will so much miss his music!

A celebration of life will be held on July 5th at St Alban's church in Albany, CA from 4:30-9 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to University of Michigan Taubman College Scholarship Fund or the Cancer Support Community in Walnut Creek. These organizations supported him when he needed them most.
