David C. Moffitt, 61, of Minneola, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2023. He was born in Portsmouth, VA to the late Charles "Pete" and Donna E. (Minick) Moffitt and grew up in Suffolk, VA. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. Returning to civilian life, he moved to Minneola and became a Florida transplant and worked for Disney as a computer control technician for over 20 years. As a child, in true sibling rivalry fashion, David enjoyed fun competition playing the board game RISK with his sister and if you asked him, he remained the reigning champion. David was, what his family called him, a historophile, a great lover of history. He enjoyed discussing topics such as Normandy, the Battle of Bataan and the Death Marches. He was also interested in the war with the Japanese in France and in particular, trench warfare.
David was blessed with what his family calls comedic timing. He had a sarcastic, mostly flippant and self-deprecating humor about himself. Tall tales, he had lots of them... he always caught the biggest and most crabs as a kid with his sister. In every story, he was always the quickest, fastest and brightest among all (wink wink), and one MUST refer to him as King David and bow before him. All this said with big grin on his face! He loved nothing more throughout his life than to make people laugh and spend time relaxing at the Outer Banks of North Carolina with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Sherrie (Jansen) Moffitt; his daughter Julia Moffitt; his sister Katherine Josey and his nieces Donna Marie Lundy and Tatianna Josey.
