David MOXAM Obituary

Published by National Post on Oct. 14, 2015.
MOXAM, David John
On Friday, October 9, 2015 we lost one of the good guys. David passed away peacefully at home after a three year battle with pancreatic cancer. Not once did that put a damper on his gentle demeanour, quirky sense of humour, kindness or generosity. He was admired and respected by all those who were lucky enough to have known him. Born in Hamilton, Ontario on December 2, 1953, David spent most of his younger years in Edmonton, Alberta. After he earned a Bachelor of Commerce Degree at the University of Alberta, he joined Gulf Canada and worked his entire 36 year career for the same company (Gulf, PetroCanada and Suncor), living in Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg and lastly, Burlington. David leaves behind his loving wife of 39 years, Vandora, who was his partner in crime and yin to his yang. He also leaves his adoring family, parents Jack and Gayle Moxam; mother-in-law Eleanor Ferr; children, Cory and Justin; sisters, Cheryl Brabbins, Linda Whitcher (Arnie), Georgina Moxam, Jackie Moxam (Craig McConnell) and brother Scott, along with all of his wonderful nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Special thanks to the "Neighbours on the Block" for their unwavering support when needed during this time including many friends and Dog Guide Foster families who helped make Dave's last three years some darn good times. Also a big thanks to all the nurses and office staff at the Joseph Brant Hospital Cancer Clinic, especially Dr. Christine LeLievre who went above and beyond the call for Dave along with Dr. John Rawlinson, Dr. Calista Phillips, Ildi Tettero, Dr. Goel and the home nurses Michelle and Kelly. At Dave's request, a service will not be held but he would ask that donations be made in his memory to The Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides, 152 Wilson St., Oakville, ON L6K 0G6, (905)842-2891 or www.dogguides.com.

In life you come across few people who are truly inspirational, Dave was this person our lives, he was not only successful in his relationship with his beautiful wife Vandora and as a father to Cory and Justin, he lived his life fully. He planned, he worked, he relaxed and he played...he loved, truly loved his friends and family.
We were blessed to have Dave in our lives, he made us feel like family, always...we love you Dave, and miss you dearly.

Vandy. We are so sorry to hear about Dave's passing. Starting since we were neighbours at the UofA in 1977, some of our funniest memories are of Dave and you. Our trips to Hawaii and Disneyland (remember the ice machine?) and freezing to death at the cabin at Pigeon Lake in the dead of winter. And the fancy dinner I had to buy when Dave won the bet that he could quit smoking and all the money I lost to him on betting against the Eskimos and Oilers (sheesh!). He was definitely way up on me. He is an awesome guy...one of the best.

Our family was so blessed to have Dave and Vandora join our clan. Growing up I never thought of them as anything other than family. They added so many great memories that we will carry with us for the rest of our lives. Thank you for being a part of our family and know that you will be missed. I am glad you are at peace, but it still feels as though it came too soon. My heart goes out to Vandora, Cory and Justin as I know they all loved Dave so deeply. Remember he will always be a part of you so he is never far away.

Dave was always a very happy person always had a smile on his face whether it be visiting at the lake, working on a project he always had a smile on his face. That's what I'm going to remember most. Miss you Dave.

It is not enough to just say goodbye to a person like David. He was one of the most honest, kind and genuine people you will ever meet. Once he and Vandora touched our family, they became a part of it. Our weekends at the lake were times we will never forget. It forged a bond with the Snyders-Blok's that will live on forever. It is after midnight now and yes, David has gone to rest. Sleep well our dear friend. You are forever in our hearts.

Vandora and family,

In the few years that I got to know David, I could see, right away, what a good natured, humble and genuine person he was. It is people like him who make this earth a better place and I feel blessed to have known him for even this short while. His beautiful soul will always be with you.

My deepest condolences

Vandora,

I don't know that you'll recall me, but we met at the pub up on Winston Churchill and Dunbar many years ago, when Dave was hosting an "après-SAP meeting" get together for us visitors from the west.

Please accept my condolences on the loss of your soulmate.

Although I only worked directly with Dave for a short period during your return to the prairies, he was one of the easiest guys to get along with, always positive, and never a disparaging word about any of his co-workers. It's a true tragedy that he left us at such a young age - the only consolation is that he obviously enjoyed the time he had left.

My sympathy is with you.

Dear Vandora and Family;
Our deepest condolences. David and I spent many happy times together at work in Western Canada and with our families skiing and at the lake with the kids. David had a very kind and soft heart. There was never anyone that did not respect him and admire the way he carried himself. He will be missed but always remember.
Sincerely Joe, Kristin and Michael Colangelo.
