Thinking of all the wonderful memories, the laughs and fun times we had together while Sam and I were on a teaching exchange in Emmetsburg Iowa. A friendship was formed, we have treasured those great times and stayed in touch with you and Judy, what an awesome couple you were together.
Rest in peace Dave

I was a student of "Dr. Dave" (as we used to call him) at ILCC in 1993. He was a great mentor who inspired and encouraged me to do better and follow my dreams. I haven't spoken to him in nearly 30 years but I've never forgotten about his impact on me. Oddly enough I woke up this morning with a strange feeling that I needed to Google Dave Nixon so I did. This is not something I have ever done before. That is how I found out about his passing. For those he left behind, please know that he had an impact on more lives than you will ever know.

Dear Slagles-please accept my sympathy. I am not sure I knew of your connection to Dave Nixon, but I always enjoyed his presence when he worked on the Sioux City news stations. His obituary is remarkable and reflects a full life and wonderful leadership. I will keep you in my prayers.

David was such an integral part of Episcopal Church. His wisdom, candor and knowledge was a gift to the church. He will be sincerely missed by the Small Church Monday morning group. He was a life-long learner and gave me many suggestions for great books to read! Hoping he is dancing with the love of his life right now...rest in peace, friend.

God’s peace be with Dave’s family. What a wonderful gift he was to us! So enjoyed and appreciated his warmed friendship from when we first started in radio to when we were co-anchors on WHO-TV & beyond. What a great life! God rest his soul. Farewell to a great one!

Dave was an amazing broadcaster and mentor. I too grew up watching him and never imagined that one day he would be my professor and guide my career. He pushed me and made me better. Dave encouraged and supported me. Dave helped me get started at KTIV in Sioux City. I have a career and a family in my broadcasting journey thanks to Dave Nixon Sr. and Dave Nixon Jr. A family that forever has a special place in my heart and many amazing memories. Rest easy and your light will continue to shine Dave Sr.

David was still enrolled as a presbyteral student at the Bishop Kemper School for Ministry in Topeka, Kansas, training to become an ordained version of what he already was, a minister. His energy, kindness, ideas, and questions will be missed by his fellow-students as well as his teachers and friends and family. May light perpetual shine him and may his memory be a blessing to all who loved him.

I grew up watching Dave on Channel 4 News. I was amazed by his confidence in front of the camera and he seldom made a mistake. When I first started at the Emmetsburg newspaper, one of my first big projects was to write a story about the Trinity Church and the remodeling they were doing. Dave was the person who met me at the church (which i was unaware of who would be
talking with me) and I just about turned around. I was new to journalism and had absolutely no training or experience in writing news stories.. I was so nervous at first, but Dave had a way of making me feel at ease. Two hours later, I had my information and a couple weeks after the interview, the story I wrote came out in one of the papers many insert specials. I received many complements from people and I felt very humbled and appreciative of them. The phone call I received from Dave telling me I did a good job with the story was extra special for me. A person I grew up watching had given me compliment is something I will never forget and still think about from time to time.
I am truly sorry for your loss and will have you all in my prayers.
