David Ose Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 29, 2015.
David Odale Ose, 48, of McCallsburg, IA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at the Israel Family Hospice House with his loving
wife by his side.

A visitation will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at Stevens Memorial Chapel (607 28th St., Ames, IA 50010). Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at St. Paul Lutheran Church (610 15th St., Ames, IA 50010). Burial will follow in the Warren Township Cemetery, in McCallsburg, IA, with full military honors conducted by American Legion Post #334 of McCallsburg.

David was born January 6, 1967, in Kansas City, MO, to Odale and Mary Ann (Hauser) Ose. He grew up in Overland Park, Kansas, where he graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School, Class of 1985. Upon graduation, David enrolled at Iowa State University (Ames, IA), majoring in Agri-Marketing with Agronomy & Animal Science, for two years. In 1986, David enlisted in the military, serving honorably in the US Army 7th and 12th Special Forces Groups.

Later, while serving in the Army Reserve, he completed his Bachelor's degree in Business Management & Marketing, at Luther College (Decorah, IA) in 1992. It was during his time at Luther College that David met his future wife, Amy (Drewis), when enrolled in a Lutheran Traditions class together. Eight years later on July 25, 1998, David and Amy were married in Telluride, Colorado with the San Juan Mountain Range as a backdrop. They made their home in Overland Park, KS and Fergus Falls, MN before moving to the Ose Farm in McCallsburg in 2003.

David enjoyed many things: music, woodworking, fishing, hunting, and scuba diving. He also found great joy in spending time with his dogs, Sinda, Mallik & Sadie. David loved to travel and enjoyed immersing himself in the culture of the locations he visited. He believed wholeheartedly that life is about the journey, not just the destination; he strived to make his journey as interesting as possible. David will be remembered for his charismatic personality, strong convictions, and for the endearing way that he loved and cared for his family, especially his parents.

Left to cherish David's memory are his wife, Amy of McCallsburg; mother, Mary Ann Ose of Roland, IA; siblings, Carol (David) Ose-Diehl of Hope, NJ and Kevin (Marijo) Ose of Eden Prairie, MN; nephews, Tim, Ben & Johnny Ose and Jeremy Diehl; nieces, Grace & Katie Ose and Mia Diehl. He also leaves behind his loving in-laws, two uncles, seven aunts, many cousins and a host of long-time friends.

In death, David is reunited in Heaven with his father, Odale Ose; his grandparents, three aunts and ten uncles.

Memorial contributions may be directed towards the family.

Dave was my locker partner at SM South. We became friends because he played bass guitar (I think it was bass) and I played drums. He'd come over to my house where we'd jam for hours without a melody. Dave was a super nice guy. He had a certain way about him that was simple, easy to be around, good natured, and kind. It's interesting, because I always wanted to be those things, and that's what drew me to Dave. When I heard about Dave's death, the first thing that entered my mind was one of those over used sayings we've all heard, but I think it's true in this case, that only the good die young. Dave, I truly enjoyed our time together, and I'm sorry you had to go.

My Good Friend Ose - I will always remember the good times that we shared together back in the mid 90's with Tucker, Dervin and many of your other freinds in Overland Park. I didn't keep in contact with you since you moved to Minnesota and then Iowa. Amy - My thoughts and prayers go out to you, your family, and David's family.

I have not seen David since our last game of YMCA football in 9th grade. It's always sad to learn of a former friend's passing.

To Amy and family, and the Ose family, So sorry for your loss. I have many good memories of David in the years that I rented the house on the Ose farm with my brother. Even though that was 20 years ago I will always remember David as a person that lived life to the fullest. David will always be part of my memories of that era in my life.

To The Ose Family: I am still in a state of shock over David's passing. Although I hadn't seen David since Jeff Davies' wedding, I remember him so fondly and so vividly. So many detailed memories of growing up with him on Granada. I'm struggling with this, as I feel as I have lost a piece of my childhood. What helps is knowing he is in a better place, and free of any pain. My thoughts and prayers are with Amy, Mary Ann, Carol and Kevin. Your Granada neighbor from so many years ago - - Brad Moore

Amy, Mary Ann, Kevin and Carol,
My condolences, and I wish you God's blessings.
David was always exuberant and fun to be around. I remember fondly many good times when he was a boy, a youth and an adult; as his older cousin, neighbor and friend.
Love,
David
