Kay, Randy, Mrs. Bolling, Shirley, and the rest of the family that I've loved nearly all my life. How do I express to you how this has affected me? I guess you'd say I'm stunned, and I can only imagine how you all are feeling. When Debra told me that he had died, I didn't connect the dots because of the strokes I"ve had. Now that I realize exactly who David was, I'm floored and deeply saddened. You were all like family to me, and I feel like a member of my family has gone. I love you all so much, and am just devastated for you. May God be with you all, and know that even from Mississippi, I send you a huge hug and a kiss to let you know how truly saddened I am for you. After reading all of his accomplishments, I know this is just devastating to you. You know that if you need anything, I'll be happy to see what I can do. But for sure, please know that you have my love, and that I'm weeping with you, my "family." I love you all!!

I have been trying to find the words to accurately tell you how sad my heart is for the loss of Dave. If he were writing this entry, he would have a heartfelt poem or at least an eloquently written message. I, on the other hand, can only try to say what is in my mind and heart. Dave and I became wonderful friends during our first days at Radford. We have shared some happy times, wild times, difficult times, but as with Dave, always memorable times. Our beach trips (thanks to Helen), our caving adventures, our scholastic feats, our relationships, our late night walks and conversations, our lives and loves after college; our friendship...his smile- I WILL NEVER FORGET. My heart cries that he has left us and my heart cries that we could not help him see all the beauty, wisdom, happiness and love that he has given to so many of us. To David S., Helen, and His family- Thank you for the gift of David William Owens. Through your compassion, love and understanding all of you created a man not only worth knowing but a friend worth loving. May God Bless and heal your hearts.

Mrs. Poole,
I knew David less then 3 years and yet after working in the same classroom co-teaching last year, I found myself sharing things with David that could only be trusted with a friend. David meant something to me and his death has changed me forever. My heart goes out to all who were touched by both his life and his death. From one mother to another, I deeply grieve for your loss.
Most Sincerely,
Deborah Cooper-Nicholas

To all of David's family,
Please know that I share your grief deeply. You have lost a wonderful son, brother, grandson, etc. I have lost my BEST friend. David filled a part of my life and heart that no one else could.
It takes a wonderful family (with the good, bad and ugly) to nurture a boy into the kind of man David became. It would take a novel to express the depths of my sorrow or to list David's many qualities. God only knows how much I will miss him.
Thank you Owens family for sharing the treasure of David with the world.
My thoughts are with you,
Sam Collins

No words can convey my grief & sorrow for the lost of David. i did not know him until i moved to Buckingham. I adopted him as another grandson & we had some great times together. When I knew I was going to be with him, it seemed as though i could not stand another
evening of doing nothing but laughing. He had a heart as big as the world, and so much talent. Rest in peace, David. God bless his family
and wipe away their tears.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during the days to come. I am so sorry that I was unable to attend the services. I will forever remember that David was an amazing personality and wonderful friend. We would laugh that he was my protector in kindergarden. He always chased away the boys who would bug me during recess. He could light up a room with a smile or joke. There are so many fond memories I don't know where to start. My heart aches. I pray that God will watch over your family.

Kay, Randy, Traci, Adam & family:
You all have been in our thoughts and prayers all week. David was such a sweet, polite & courteous young man whose face lit up like sunshine when he smiled. He touched many lives and was truly loved as was seen by the number of people who have shown their love and concern this week as well as the number of pages filled in this guest book. May God comfort you and bring you peace, as only He can do; and, may the love of family, friends, and many good memories help to sustain you in the difficult days ahead. We love you and we are here if we can help in anyway.
With deepest heartfelt sympathy,

Mr. David Spencer, Kay, Randy and Family,
I am so sorry I was not able to make it last night to David's memorial. I would have given anything to be there. Our loss is the world’s loss. David was truly a wonderful person and a true friend to those in need. I wish more than anything that I hadn’t lost touch with David and that we had kept in touch after high school. I will always fondly recall our Forensics trips complete with the games of Putt-Putt and eating at the North China Inn in Gatlinburg. We didn’t always see eye to eye, but part of the fun of having David around was that one was always allowed to express whatever opinion one might hold. David was always the one with a joke or a funny comment…..I want to believe that he knew we all loved him and supported him in anything he wished to do. My heart and my thoughts go out to all of you all in this time of grief.

To the entire Poole Family:(Kay, Randy, Adam, Tracy and Johnny)
Well what can I say that I havent already told you. You all know that David was a good man, that was known by everyone that knew him. Not only that, he was an accomplished teacher, writer, and very gifted at everything he chose to do. I, like everyone else, have fond memories of David and will miss him greatly. From vacations to just hanging out, he was always great to be around. I just want the entire family to know that I love you guys and you all are just like a second family to me. To RP and Charlie, you guys know you hold a special place in my heart and are truly a mans best friend. I am truly privliged to have known you all. Much love from the entire Ruff Family(Barry, Trista, and Truth)

Kay and Randy,
There was so much I wanted to say to you last night at the memorial, but time was limited because of so many friends that did show up to give you their best and their prayers.
I don't have the words to express how I feel for you both. I watched David grow from a mischevious little boy to a very well liked gentleman.
My prayers and love are with you both and your family. I can't say I know what you are going through, because I don't. All I can say is that I love you both and my prayers are with you always. I hope all the wonderful memories you have of David will help the pain feel not so bad. I know you have good memories of him. I hope when you are feeling the pain really bad that God will place those good memories in your mind and take the pain away, if only for a minute.
I love you both, and if there is ever anything I can do for you, just let me know.
Love to you both

Mother to Mother I can not begin to feel your pain. With all of our "kid talking" over the years I felt like I knew David, but after reading all the wonderful comments about him you never truly bragged enough!
I am thinking about you and your family and praying you can somewhere find the strength to know that even in his short life that he touched so many people.

I am so very sorry to hear about your loss. David was such a sweet heart and so nice to everyone. I remember how nice he was to me that year we rode to Castlewood H.S. together each morning.

Your family is in our prayers!

Owens Family,
I am sorry for your loss. Words, at this point, provide no comfort for the sorrow you are now feeling. Over time, the pain will lessen and provide you with only the happy memories that David provided.
David was my first roommate in College at Radford. He was shy for about the first 20 minutes of knowing him, but quickly became a dear friend. He was quick, humorous, and kind enough to introduce us to his inviting family. Passionate for learning, South western Virginia, and having a good time. I will never be able to think about college without Dave.
He will be missed.

Tanya and I would like to express our condolences to David's family. Please know we enjoyed David's company while either playing golf or socializing with friends. David kept us all in stiches laughing at his funny jokes or hilarious stories. Moreover, upon returning from southwest Virginia, David many times was generous enough to share his grandmother's canned green beans as well as homemade tomato soup with my mom as well as with Tanya and I. David gracioulsy donated his time to play in charitable golf events and also, was a competitor on the golf course. He was quite fond of his 2 iron and often bailed us out with that club. In fact, during a round of golf, I sometimes would call David, "The 2 Iron Kid."

David and I worked together at BCMS for eight years. David had a quick wit, a wry sense of humor, and a wonderful ability to make us laugh. He also had a tremendous gift for working with students. I am so sorry to hear about David. I remember in high school there was never a dull moment around David; just an all around good guy and even though we lost touch, he will forever be missed.

Dave was a dear friend of mine and someone who I looked up to. I had the pleasure of working with him the past two years in Buckingham. Dave helped me out through some hard times last year and really helped pick my spirits up when I was down. That was the thing about Dave. He always looked out for other people and cared about their needs and problems before he would worry about himself. We talked about fishing, nature, farming, sports, our families, and yes of course, school. I will never forget the time I got to spend with him. I will miss Dave and his smiling face greatly but know that from the Word of God, we will see him again one day. I Thessalonians 4:13-18. My prayers are with your family.
In Him,

I am so sorry to hear about David. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of grief. I have so many memories of us in high school. He was such a dear friend to me, always there to pick me up when I was down. Although we lost touch after graduation, I never forgot him and the memories. May God be with you in your time of need.

Helen and Family: We love you all very much and are so very sorry to hear about 'lil Dave. It won't be the same in this world without my little cousin. I remember when I (Billy) worked at Food City and he worked there when he would come in from college...he was always smiling and happy with that fishing pole in the backseat of his little Cavalier. I was thinking about him the other day when I was talking to mom (Marion) and then find out this heartbreaking news. Words are hard to find but I think Proverbs 3:5-6 can help us all through times like these. We love you all very much.
