David Edward Pelkey passed away on April 24, 2014 after a brave battle against renal cancer. David was born in Waterbury, CT on March 23, 1957 to Margaret (Bosco) Pelkey and Edward Pelkey. David was raised in Prospect, CT where he attended public schools. He graduated from Holy Cross High School in Waterbury, CT and attended The University of Bridgeport. David enjoyed a long and successful career in publishing, first at Newfield Publications in Middletown, CT and most recently as Director of Manufacturing at Merriam-Webster in Springfield. He was inducted into the Publishing Executive Hall of Fame in 2006. David was first and foremost a family man who was devoted to his wife of 31 years, Gina (Triano) Pelkey, son Matthew, daughter Kristin and daughter-in-law Perry. Among David's greatest pleasures was cherished time spent on Cape Cod where he enjoyed the company of family, friends and his four legged friend, Peanut. He had a great fondness for all things musical, especially playing the guitar and performing with his sister, son, daughter, brother-in-law and nephews. While helping with the sets for the Wilbraham Summer Youth Theatre, he learned stagecraft flying which led to producing and performing in several shows for The Wilbraham United Players. A sports enthusiast, David loved running, golf, karate and baseball. He was a lifelong Red Sox fan fortunate enough to attend Game 2 of the 2004 World Series. David will be remembered for his quick wit, dry humor, generosity and gentlemanly demeanor. David was beloved by many childhood friends with whom he maintained long and loving relationships. In addition to his parents, wife and children, David is survived by his sisters; Sherry Sowinski and Kim Donahue, brother Kevin Pelkey, brother-in-law Kevin Donohue, sister-in-law JoAnn Pelkey, several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 27th from 2:00 - 4:00 pm, concluding with a Funeral Service at 4:00 pm at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Road, Wilbraham. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Team East Street, 59 Bobala Road. Holyoke, MA 01040.
