I am saddened to hear of his passing... David performed many surgeries on my cleft lip and palate from 1987 when I was 5 until I turned 23... He was an amazing person and took pride in his work. I had no idea of his passing until I googled his name as I was hoping he was still working in oral surgery for cleft lip and palate, I was going to contact him to see if he would be able to construct my son's lip who was born on February 16th with cleft lip... My condolences to his family... May he RIP

To the Precious Family, I was truly saddened to learns of the untimely passing of Dr. Precious. I only ever had the pleasure of meeting him briefly when I was a young resident surgeon, but I remember being struck by how kind and accommodating he was. Dr. Precious was truly a giant of oral and maxillofacial surgery.

To the Precious family - please accept our deepest sympathies. Janice and I first met Dr. Precious in the early 90's at the IWK cleft palate clinic. Our daughter was just one of the many children whose lives were changed as a result of Dave's surgical skill. During those years, we were lived down the street from Dr. Precious and would regularly cross paths with him our daily walks to Dalhousie. He was never too busy or self absorbed to say hello and call you by name. He was truly one in a million.

To Elizabeth Precious and family, I was shocked to hear the news about David's death and doubly shocked to discover that Suzanne had also passed on. I only knew David as a young child as our families drifted apart many years ago, mostly because of geography. David's grandmother and my grandmother were sisters and I knew Aunt Jean (nee Larocque) as we called her, very well.

What an amazing person David must have been. His grandmother would have been very proud of him. And what an incredible life so well lived. For my part, I'm very proud to be able to say that I share ancestry with him.

Sincerely, David Jehu, McDonalds Corners, Ont.

My heart felt condolences to David's family. David taught me in the 70s in dental school. He had a unique way of teaching as we struggled sometimes with our limited knowledge of what he was teaching and he never embarrassed us about our lack of knowledge. He was a gracious and special man. Although I only saw him 3 or 4 times after I graduated in 76 he always remembered your name was enthusiastic to see you again. God bless David and his family. Sincerely Terry Shaw , Tobique Narrows,N.B.

Dave was my Chairman for a number of years while I was at Dalhousie's Dental School: he supported me, protected me, encouraged me - made my life at Dalhousie productive and enjoyable. He was also the consummate gentleman, and academician.

I was not aware of his illness and very saddened by his passing.

Dr. Precious was my jaw surgeon. I had a disease in my jaw that caused not only pain for many (many!) years, but also disfigurement and dis-function. I was first in New York, where the surgeon there wanted to remove part of my hip to rebuild my jaw, but before the plan could be put in place, we moved to Halifax. When I expressed worry about finding a surgeon here who could do this surgery for me, I was told, "Oh you're going to Halifax? The best surgeon in the world is there. Dr. Precious."
Dr. Precious is probably one of the most giving and kind people I have met. Though my "case" was said to be "one of the worst" he never made me feel like just a "case." He restored my jaw without harvesting pieces from my hip. It was intense (over four hours) and extremely difficult (both for him, and for me). And when I had a bit of relapse a few years later I went to see him again. I didn't know it would be the last time I saw him. And so his last words to me were "I want you to go out and just enjoy your life and forget about this difficult time."
Thank you Dr. Precious. My sincerest sympathies.

As a young camper at beautiful Camp Tawingo in Muskoka Ontario, I was in awe of Dave Precious because he was the first person to receive his Eagle Crest at the camp. A person who met the requirements of this award had to be an extremely accomplished person. The Eagle Crest award represented the highest achievement in multiple areas, which included swimming, canoeing, campcraft, leadership and so on.
Later, when I moved to Halifax, I continued to watch, from a distance, as the amazing life of Dr. Precious unfolded. The Halifax community has been priviledged to have him in our midst and he will be deeply missed by many, both those near to him and beyond.
With my sincere sympathies, Barbara Beach
