I worked with Dave at Apple. He was an outgoing, gregarious, and unpretentious soul... A delight to work with. He would give you a straight answer to your question if he knew it, and would tell you if he did not. I've posted some pictures of him in 1997 with one of the first Apple Quicktake digital cameras. I was surprised and deeply saddened to hear of his passing. He was one of the good ones.

During my fall break while at Duke for grad school, some of my friends and I flew out to visit my Great Uncle Dave and had the most amazing long weekend! He treated us to the most amazing meal, took us on a vineyard crawl, and showed us all around the beautiful waterfalls and views in the area. We spent every night sitting outside drinking wine and pestering him with questions about his life at Apple. My friends and I still talk about this being one of our favorite weekends and Uncle Dave being the best host.

Uncle Dave we are all going to miss you so much

Dave and I worked today for several years at Apple. I very fondly remember our discussions and appreciate all the knowledge he shared with me. Dave was a wonderful dog daddy too. I house sat for Bear and Pepper (his dogs at the time) and it was clear he loved those dogs.

Dave is very much missed. He touched so many lives.

I met Dave at a volunteer meeting through the Oregon Humane Society. He seemed like such an interesting guy. Then a couple of months later we met up again at a vineyard practices course at Chemeketa Community College. We stayed in touch after that and he invited me to several dinner parties in his home. I´m so sad I was never able to attend and now I will never get another invitation from such a lovely person. I´m sorry for his family´s loss. RIP Dave!

I met Dave through a mutual friend (Art Cabral) in the mid-late '80s, and I counted him among my best friends back in the Apple days. What I remember most about Dave is that he was a really nice, super intelligent (but down-to-earth) guy who had a great sense of humor, loved all kinds of beer (later the same with wine), had a passion for pinball machines, and loved his dogs. Though I haven't had much contact with him in years, I've still thought about him often, remembering the good ol' days. RIP, Varnor the Immortal.

I worked with Dave the past year and a half as his wellness coach. Over this time, we became good friends. I´m so grateful for the time we had together. He really touched my life and I will always miss him.

Dave was so willing to share. He was younger than me, but I lost track of him 40 or 50 years. I recently met him again at our family reunion. And the bond I feel with is exceptional In that very short time.
We laughed I a joked with him that I asked questions and he gave answers. He was such an interesting DUDE!!!
I planned to visit him and I am so sad I will not be able to. His Cousin Phil Mancke

When Dave came to the Northwest, he quickly embraced the Northwest portion of his extended family. Thanksgiving, birthdays, anniversaries, reunions, and just good times. He always brought smiles and laughter, good stories and wine. It has been a pleasure to have you with us and you will be greatly missed.
