David Lawrence Robins

David Lawrence Robins, 87, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025, in Bethel, Connecticut surrounded by his wife and friends who were his family.

David was born on June 24, 1937, in Surrey, England to parents Lawrence Arthur Kenneth Robins and Irene Elsie Hutchings. David pursued an education that reflected his keen intellect and ambition. He attended the London School of Economics and later completed the Stanford Executive Program at Stanford University. His academic background laid the foundation for a distinguished career in publishing. Before embarking on his professional journey, David fulfilled his National Service, demonstrating his dedication and sense of duty.

David was a pioneering force in the world of publishing sales. He held executive roles at both The Economist and The Daily Telegraph, where his expertise and leadership were widely recognized. Notably, he played a crucial role in expanding The Economist's global reach by opening its first North American office in New York. His contributions helped shape the publication's presence in the region and left a lasting impact on the industry. David was proud of his US citizenship which was earned on September 15, 1995.

Those who knew David remember him as a generous, engaging, intelligent, and kind individual. His warmth and charisma left an impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was truly our English Gentleman.

David is survived by his wife of 49 years, Anne Eckersley and his sister Margaret Salti, her husband Mohamed and nephews Mazin and Nizar Zaharan. David also leaves behind many friends who were truly his extended family.
