Was just talking about my knee surgeries with a co worker and we found out we were both a patient of doctor Rotor's, we also both had 3 surgeries. He did such an amazing job for me I have not had any knee problems for nearly 10 years now thanks to the job he did on me. I remember how friendly, and funny he was. I would never let anyone operate on my knees but him. I feel very sad to find out that he is gone. My condolences

Dr. Roter continues to live with me every day of my life; every day that I can get up and walk without pain, every day that I can move about freely and not be crippled in a wheelchair. With every step I am able to take, I send a grateful prayer to Dr. Roter. I thank him for his careful, thoughtful, precise work and thorough patient care. I remember how buoyant and excited he was before each surgery, as if he were about to embark on a new adventure. I only wish I could have given more back to him, and let him know how important he was to me.
Sincerely, Marilyn Ellinghaus

WE REMEMBER THEM.

At the rising of the sun and at its going down
We remember them.

At the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter
We remember them.

At the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of spring
We remember them.

At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of summer
We remember them.

At the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of autumn
We remember them.

At the beginning of the year and when it ends
We remember them.

As long as we live, they too will live, for they are now a part of us as
We remember them.

When we are weary and in need of strength
We remember them.

When we are lost and sick at heart
We remember them.

When we have joy we crave to share
We remember them.

When we have decisions that are difficult to make
We remember them.

When we have achievements that are based on theirs
We remember them.

As long as we live, they too will live, for they are now a part of us as
We remember them.

This candle is for Rebecca, with whom I am sure you are frolicking in the afterlife, as you show her the ways of the universe. I love you both. Your love for her was eternal, so I light this in honor of that fact. I hope you are holding hands.

I did not know Mr Roter but I know how much one of my friends (his daughter) misses him. I would have liked to know him. He seemed like an amazing person.
All I can say is do not spend to much time morning his passing but instead celebrate who he was and the good moments of his life.

I was in your office yesterday, which was filled with your energy. The staff all seem to have you in their minds. Your name is still listed on the paperwork. You are still the guiding light for the health care workers there. And there is such a huge "missing" with you not there. I have a new injury and would love to have had you be the one to offer me compassion and love and to take care of me. You were so special - one of a kind. I miss you. I know your loving spirit lives on in a serene place.

If not for Dr. David Roter I would not be walking without a cane today. He was not only my surgeon for 30 years, he was the kind and compassionate man who provided honest hope with every surgery he performed. He treated my wife and children, as well.
The fact that both my wife and I began to cry upon hearing of his passing says so much about him as a man, a friend, and our doctor. He will be missed. His deep, caring voice will always be remembered.

Dr Roter was an angel - a healer of bones, hearts and spirits- may God hold him in a loving embrace for eternity. He was brilliant, humble, caring and sweet. My surgeon for 36 years - I will miss him very much. I was blessed by his skill, knowledge and care. Dear Dr. Roter and family:

You were absolutely the best orthopedic surgeon anyone could have. You gave me the ability to walk again with two new hip replacements. Your gentle way and sense of humor were incredible. I always wanted to hug you everytime I had an appointment with you. I was devastated to finally hear of your passing. Please rest in peace Dr.Roter. You will be missed by many who loved and cared about you.

"David L. Roter" - only 2 Docs in my life did I refer to with middle initial included. "Edward J. Lurie" is the other. Both were special people to me. My family and I were deeply saddened by the news of this tragedy. You helped me, my wife and son, not to mention so many of our friends, I am sorry we could not help you. May God bless you, your family and all who knew you.

Dr Roter was such a caring compassionate man who was determined to give me such comfort when I could not get other doctors even interested. I am so very sad to lose him as a doctor, and would have wished to know him better over years now lost. My heart goes out to family and friends.

David Roter. You have been in our lives for the past 30 years, with breaks and sprains to my daughters limbs, various surgeries for them, and then multiple ski injuries for my knees and bad falls in the shower during chemo. We always relied on your opinion. You always knew exactly what needed to be done You were always calm and clear and compassionate no matter the situation, which gave us a sense that all would be fine. I enjoyed hearing your comments that I had put onto my joints 60000 miles, and I need to expect changes to happen after all of those miles used up. It really made sense. I was planning to see you shortly about my shoulder. My entire family will miss your strength and knowledge and your sweet way of speaking to us. I cannot imagine you being gone. You were a fine man as well as being a fine doctor. I have been so saddened by your loss and will miss you very much.

Not only was Dr Roter my orthopedic surgeon but my friend. The first hip he replaced for me was only hours before he had appendicitis and ended up in the hospital 2 rooms down from me yet he still came in to check on me afterwards (in his pajamas, no less). The second hip was over Christmas and he came in to see me both Christmas Eve and Christmas day. When ever I or my children needed a specific doctor, Dr. Roter would always refer me to the best. We discussed our love of motorcycle riding numerous times. Over the years and numerous proceedures it came to the point where we would hug each other every time I stopped into the office. I always knew that I was in good hands. I will very much miss your gentle heart, good humor, phenomenal care and your friendship. A piece of my heart goes with you.

Dr. Roter,
You always reminded me of a great big teddy bear. Surgery is such serious, focused work, and yet you always seemed lighthearted and joyful before my hip replacements. Your awesome proficiency kept me out of a wheelchair. Even more important was your compelling presence as a compassionate and caring person. I will never forget you, and always be grateful for the liberty you gave to me. May you move forward now in peace and joy.

Dr. Roter I am so sorry you have left us. I hope you have found peace. The last time I was at your office I couldn't believe how hard you were working, seeing patients, doing charts, yet you were always willing to go the extra mile with me despite your crowded and intense schedule. A good doctor is hard to find. I will miss you.

I love you, Dad...

Dear Dr Roter, Thank you for the best couple of years of my life as I worked for you and your staff at Mapleton Hill Ortho back in 2000. The day I was born I became a patient of Dr. Roter. When I was 3 days old he performed a procedure on me. Since then, over the last 25 years, he performed 3 surgeries on me and countless on my mom, Jana. He has blessed my family in so many ways and I'm thankful to have been in the caring hands of such an extraordinary doctor, surgeon, person, and friend.

My last surgery he performed on Christmas Eve because I was losing insurance coverage for several months at the end of the year due to changing jobs and it was urgent. He was able to accommodate me and schedule me for surgery with less than a week's notice due to my circumstances. What surprised me the most is that he came in and checked up on me for about two hours on Christmas day, even though he didn't have to.

One of my favorite memories of Dr. Roter was right after I was given anesthesia prior to surgery, I told him that the overhead lights looked like flowers... and he laughed loudly and replied, "Yes, Justin, they are beautiful aren't they."

I never have met another as caring and talented doctor in my entire life. His passion for helping other is evident in his work. He was careful, honest, sincere, and tranquil. I wish I could have thanked him more for how much he did for me and my family.

My prayers are with his family, Sherl, and all of his associates at Mapleton Hill Orthopedics.

I can't thank Dr Roter enough for making available to me, his "lifetime of knowledge learned" so he could save my life with his gift of a new right hip this last January. He did save my life in just a few minutes early that Wed morning, and then he went on and saved 3 more lives that Wednesday, like he did most every Wednesday.
And it made me think of the incredible number of lives he saved and impacted over the years, all over the world, thanks to his dedication to a sacred oath and all the places he has tried to make a difference. What an incredible giving, caring man. He is a genuine hero to me. He has has helped so many.

And my best to Sherl, what a team.

my condolences and thanks,
Bill Boyd
