David S. Rowden

BRANDON - David Stewart Rowden, 70, died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016, at his home.
He was born May 3, 1946, in Haverhill, New Hampshire, the son of Scott and BettyMae (Stewart) Rowden.
He graduated in 1965 from Derby, Vermont, Academy.
Mr. Rowden joined the U.S. Navy after graduation and served until October 1969.
He worked in construction during the building of Jay Peak, served as a police officer for the city of Newport, and retired in 2005 after 30 years as a game warden with the Vermont Department of Fish & Wildlife. In retirement, he was a police officer for the Town of Brandon for several years and more recently worked at ACE Hardware/Brandon Lumber.
He was a member of Brandon Fire Department, Brandon Area Rescue Squad, the Lions, Friends of the Town Hall and Life Bridge Christian Church.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was a member of the Legion Riders of Brandon American Legion Post 55.
Survivors include his wife, Sally (Thomas) Rowden of Brandon, whom he married Aug. 10, 1974, in Poultney; two children Scott Rowden of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Jennifer Charter of Brunswick, Georgia; three siblings Richard Rowden of Burlington, Janet Howard of Hardwick and Susan Fortin of Derby; three grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 23, at Brandon Congregational Church. The Rev. Roger Foster, pastor of Life Bridge Christian Church. will officiate. A reception will follow at Brandon American Legion.
Burial with military honors will take place at a later date in Poultney Village Cemetery.
