DAVID SCHEI Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 21, 2013.
David Elmer Schei was murdered on March 11, 2013 in Fairbanks, Alaska by a man that he had befriended. David was born April 10, 1953 to Elmer (John) and Helen Schei in Mount Vernon, WA. He was the grandson of Oliver and Ida Schei and Anton and Lizzy Lundvigson Norwegian settlers in Snohomish County.

David was raised in the Victoria Heights area of Stanwood. He was confirmed in the Freeborn Lutheran Church and graduated in 1971 from Stanwood High School. After high school he went into the Air Force learning auto and helicopter mechanics. His skill in auto mechanics served him well as he went on to own shops in Yakima and LaConner. He became a long haul driver which he was doing at the time of his death.

For over 20 years David was very involved with AA as a counselor and speaker. He always lent a hand to people who had lost their way.

He leaves behind to mourn his passing his son Justin (Maki) Schei of Enumclaw, who David loved very much, and Justin's mom Jody Reilly of Homer, Alaska. He also leaves his sister Judy (Howard) Barrows of Granite Falls, and niece Kelly Sylliaasen and nephew Doug Barrows, both also of Granite Falls; brother John (Becky) Schei of Yakima and niece Kim (Brad) Howard of Kelso and nephew Dan Schei (Megan) of Stanwood and brother Dan Schei of Marblemount. There are also 5 great-nephews and 1 great-niece and 2 great-great-nephews He also leaves uncle Alfred (Lois) Schei; aunts Irene Simonseth, Ruth Schei and Edith Schei, along with numerous cousins.

There will be an announcement of a memorial service to be held in April.

Dave was a big hearted man. The two and a half years we were in a relationship he was nothing less then kind, generous, loving and giving. He didn't care who you were, where you'd been or what you'd done. There was no judgement, just a helping hand that reached out in kindness, to hopefully make your path easier. Sincere condolences to all Dave's family and friends. Such a great loss.

Godspeed my dear friend! Grandpa Jerry Blades has the fondest memories of you and Uncle David as kids... Broke his heart to know that you have passed which gave way to stories this morning of La Conner, Stanwood and the surrounding areas that Dave also lived! Swiftly we pass by without a thought until our day is done.

Knowing Dave changed my life. He was always willing to give me a hug when I needed one and tell me everything was going to be okay. He will be greatly missed. I am thankful I got a chance to know this amazing man, even if only for a short while.
