Josie and I (Helen aka Boston) went to learn the game of pickleball at the westside community center and from the first day we talk about everything about the area to politics we became friends

David was my first best friend when I arrived (and have not left, yet) in Colorado Springs in 1976. We worked (and had fun) selling stereo equipment and good music, while sharing good times hiking, skiing, music, good food (thanks Carol) and our personal choices of enjoying life. David introduced me to "Real Hiking" up Pikes Peak and Snowmass Mountain, downhill and cross- country skiing. We really had some fun "good times", and I will "keep on keeping on"...God Bless.....

Sincerely,
Randy Peterson

Dave was a great table tennis player in between fun stories and laughter. I played his final doubles game with him on the Monday before he passed a way. He went out a winner in table tennis and life as well.

It's so hard to know what to say when someone passes away. Our family has been friends with the Schells for several years. Our sons were very good friends all through grade school, junior high and high school. Dave and Carol were such an awesome couple. Alot of the times when I drove by the Westside Community Center, I would see Dave and Carol outside playing pickle ball. They were such an active couple. Dave was always so kind when I would see him. I hadn't seen him for months until a couple of months ago we saw each other down at the Westside Community Center twice in 2 weeks. A quick Hi and "how's the boys?" was all we said to each other. Now I really wish I would have stopped and talked more. We will miss you Dave. You were truly a kind soul.

I first met Dave while working for US West in Colorado Springs sometime around 1997-1998. Never really worked with him directly but we shared a kinship nonetheless. It wasn´t until he retired that our friendship started to develop. Sharing hikes locally and snowshoeing over in and around the collegiate range. Jaunts in and around Red Rocks and Red Rocks canyon and simple neighborhood walks as well. Dave was a kind and gentle soul and it saddens me that he´s left us so soon. He will surely be missed. Love and prayers for Carol and the rest of the family

I will never forget the time I went horseback riding with my dad and Uncle Dave. Dave and I ended up in the back of the line of horses and dad was in the front. Uncle Dave got bored and said "let's go!" So he and I charged, around everyone, to the front (which was not following the rules)! The guide was not happy but we sure had fun. He always made sure that I was having fun even if a few small rules needed to be broken. His love for adventure meant there was never a dull moment.

Dave and Carol were the HEART of the pickleball family at West Side Community Center. They were always there for everyone with a smile, a hug, and sometimes a tear. Their love for each person was always tangible. And now, it is our prayer that they can feel that love being returned.
