David Matthew Silvernail

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - David Matthew Silvernail, 48, died unexpectedly at his home in San Diego, CA, on December 30, 2015. He was born in Willimantic, CT, July 28, 1967, the son of John W. and Elizabeth (Cressy) Silvernail.

David and his family moved from CT to ME in 1971 and settled in Bucksport in 1977. He graduated from Bucksport High School in 1985, then went on to complete an undergraduate degree in engineering at the University of Maine at Orono. While at Orono he became a Naval ROTC Cadet. He later served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Supply Corps aboard nuclear submarines. During his eight year Naval service he was posted in Hawai'i, San Diego, and London, England. While posted in London he completed an MBA at the London School of Business. Upon entering the private sector David began his career in engineering. Applying both his educational and personal skills he rose to the position of Director of Field Operations with Underground Solutions in Poway, CA.

David's life, while sadly far too brief, has left those who loved him and those who cared for him with memories that will be treasured far into the future. His death has left us all with indescribable sadness.

He is survived by his two daughters, Molly E. and Emily T. Silvernail, and their mother, Erin Tanner; his father John W. Silvernail of Bucksport, ME; three brothers, Michael A. Sillvernail of Somerville, MA; Benjamin N. Silvernail and his partner, Tracey MacDonald, of Orrington, ME, and Andrew K. and his wife, Shelby (Hawes) Silvernail, of Lake Forest, IL; three nephews, one niece, as well as a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, Elizabeth (Cressy) Silvernail.

A celebration of David's life will be held at the Alamoosook Lodge in Orland, ME, between 3-5 p.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2016. A time of sharing will begin at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting Molly and Emily's future education. We have created a college fund for both girls.
