Mr. David Smith, age 85, passed away Friday, October 14, 2022 at Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Smith was born May 31, 1937 in Wilkes County to George and Roseann Hayes Smith, Sr.
David was a retired farmer and was a member of Shoaly Branch Baptist Church where he served as the chairman of deacons for many years. He was voted Wilkes County farmer of the year for two years. David loved his family and was very proud of his four grandsons. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, George Smith, five brothers, Harvey, George Jr., Frank, Gene and Bill Smith, two sisters, Blanche McCann and Maggie Adams.
Survivors include: his wife of 65 years, Wilma Reece Smith of the home, a son, Gerald Smith and wife Deborah of Elkin, two daughters, Debbie Wood and husband Kenny of State Road, Lisa Landry and husband Mike of Elkin, four grandsons, Joe Wood and wife Annika, Jared Smith, Brett Smith, Jesse Smith, two grand puppies, Daisy and Bogey, his special breakfast buddy, Possum Spicer, a special friend, Bruce Carter, two brothers-in-law, Satch White, Jim Adams, five sisters-in-law, Lena Smith, Ann Smith, Johnsie Smith, Kathy Reece, Colleen Hall, several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted Sunday, October 16, 2022 at 4:00 pm at Shoaly Branch Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Joe Wood and Rev. Keith Blankley officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorials be made to Shoaly Branch Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
