Mr. Sowerby was a very loving and kind teacher. I had him for 6th and 7th grade orchestra, and even though I played an unpopular instrument, he still really cared.

What Mr. Sowerby meant to me was a lot. To me he was a very special person in my life, he made orchestra my favorite class. Every day I would look forward to my orchestra class. He made me want to try in everything. Every day there was something that made everybody laugh. I remember one time, he had a bag from 'Clairs' filled with markers and someone had said, "is that your purse.", he had laughed and said, "Ya, it's my man purse." Everybody had started to laugh so hard. With his help, I have become First Chair for Viola's (7th grade advanced). Even with me just being just a student of his, to me he was the best teacher in the world. Now, without him orchestra doesn't seem the same.
Sincerely, Nina Crosby

I really got to know David while at hockey practices. We talked mostly about music and harp specifically for his orchestra. He was always so upbeat and positive. I did have the opportunity to sit next to him during one particular hockey game. He certainly knew how to get fired up. He will be greatly missed. Our hearts go out to you all during this time.

I am very sorry that he died and I will always remember his amazing stories that he shared with me and all that he has done for us. I am thankful that I was able to know him and will always appreciate him teaching me in class and being who he was. I will always remember Mr. Sowerby as an extraordinary and amazing person who told us stories of how he did his best to survive. I am glad that I was able to spend every second in orchestra with him and making us helping us become a successful/better musician. He will always be in my memory and I hope someday I will share how amazing and funny Mr. Sowerby was to many people in the future. I wish that I could have spent more time with him before he was gone and wish that I could have said one last goodbye to him. We will miss you Mr. Sowerby, Rest in Peace

Me along with my siblings were lucky enough to have him as a teacher and a mentor. His passion for music inspired my family, along with so many others and will never be forgotten. Keeping your family in our prayers.

All three of my children were blessed to be students of Mr. Sowerby. They always had wonderful stories to tell about him. I thank God for him, and the gift of music he blessed them with. It is clear to me that he taught them more than music. The Kittredge´s offer heartfelt condolences. He will be missed.

My fondest memories of David were his visits with my father, John. My dad had a special place in his heart for this wonderful young man. He saw in him a future that would be filled with love and strength. David chose a wonderful, strong wife to share his life with and he will be remembered for a long time by all those he touched in his short time with us.

3 of my kids had Mr Sowerby (and Mrs!) for a middle school orchestra teacher. He was well liked for his ease with kids, his love for music, his sense of humor and ability to make learning fun. Peace to his family during this difficult time.
