David Oliver SPLANE

May 24, 1938 - October 2, 2022

In his 85th year, passed suddenly at home with his wife Mary and daughters Deborah and Kimberley by his side.
He was married almost 63 years to Mary (South).
Loving father of Deborah (late Gordon) Fyfe, Kimberley (Robert Tracy) and Christopher (Carole) Splane. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Andrew (Stephanie) Fyfe, Candice (Steven) Rightmyer, Michael (Michelle) Fyfe, Amber (Henry) Kelsey, Shai-Anne, Michael, Rebecca, Joshua, Victoria and Samantha Splane; and his great-grandchildren Kohl, Abraham, Seth, Montana, Jackie, Freddy, Logan, Jack, Violet, Owen and Geneva.
Survived by sisters Irene (late Jack) Richardson, Louise (late Bob) Burke; brother Orrin (late Yvonne) Splane and brother-in-law Bill White.
Predeceased by parents Harold and Thelma Splane; in-laws William and Gertrude South; infant daughter Rhonda Leigh Splane; sisters-in-law Jean (late Jerry) Vandusen, Muriel (late Bill) Barill, Anna White, Isabelle (late Cedric Vandusen) (late Earl) Carey and brother-in-law Frank (late Eva) South.
David will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours.

David was a long time resident of Smiths Falls. He has the distinction of being past President of the Smiths Falls Civitan Club along with District Governor.
David spent his career working in the banking industry and for the federal government, retired and then worked as a Commissionaire for many years. In his leisure time he volunteered for many organizations. He could be found manning the penalty box for the Smiths Falls Bears or working the Tuesday night bingo for the Smiths Falls Civitan Club. He peeled many potatoes for the Civitan Club as well, always available to help in the kitchen for their many banquets. David helped with Settlers Days, the planning of the building of Lombardy Hall, helped Percy Joynt with Rideau Horse Shows. He was the treasurer for Maple Vale cemetery. When he wasn't helping others he was reading another novel and spending time with his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren adored him and his sense of humour and he loved them immensely.

Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life on Sunday, October 16, 2022 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Smiths Falls Civitan Club. Donations in memory of David can be made to the Smiths Falls Civitan Club.
