Marilyn, I am so sorry to hear about David. He was truly a wonderful man. Mom always thought a lot of David, and you as well. I tried to find a phone number for the two of you at Mom's house, but could not locate where she put your number. Cheryl Barton-Wyatt (Lois Barton's daughter from Kentucky)

Dave was a dear friend a force of nature. He was brilliant, incredibly funny and erudite, told the best stories, and had a huge heart. All of us who opened Harrah's Shreveport will never forget him and the good times we had together as the opening team. Gayle Tegler (Kime)

Harrah's was the first casino riverboat to arrive in our little town. Suddenly people from Tahoe, Vegas, and Atlantic City we're landing in Shreveport. Having absolutely no gaming experience, I had no idea what to expect during an interview for the position of Casino Administrator....fortunately, Dave Tannen was one of the first four people I met. That interview and the following three years were filled with lots of laughter! Dave taught me so much; he was a protector, teacher, mentor, translator, confidant, entertainer, enforcer, and teddy bear! He always had a funny story to share, and was always plain spoken and never pretentious. I still have a birthday card he and the other three Casino Managers gave me that first summer. He made me feel like a true, valued member of the team. Thanks for your friendship; you will be remembered and missed!

Marilyn, I'm so sorry for your loss. Dave was one of my favorite people I have ever worked with in the Casino business. He really knew how to make a bad scenario appear funny. I worked with Dave and Marilyn almost 40 years ago at the Holiday (Harrah's) Casino in Las Vegas. We were all much younger then and had such a good time. My condolences to his entire family, friends and pets. RIP Dave.

Well........Dave...............
.....It was a lot of years. A lot of years and I don't remember any of them being "bad". Without you, undoubtedly, I wouldn't be able to say that.

like so many others, I have a lot to thank you for. We saw each other through many "ups" and "downs" but the "downs" were always made better by you.

It's a testament to you that people you met 25 years ago in Shreveport still look up to you and appreciate your friendship. Some of them have, already, posted on here.

I had always hoped that, somehow, we would spend our later years in rocking chairs, out on the porch, telling each other the same casino stories, and no matter how many times we heard them..........we would laugh. I guess I'll just have to tell those stories to myself.

....It WAS a lot of years.......almost 40...........

Thanks, Dave.

Marilyn, where would we be without you? Thanks for all that you brought to Dave's life. I'm here.

I worked with Dave in Shreveport and he was always delightful. Funny and also deeply committed, Dave was just a good human being. There won't be another like him. He made a difference in the world, and I'll truly miss him.

I worked with Dave when he was in Shreveport, LA, and then saw him again about 9 years ago in Las Vegas. He was funny but also clearly a deep soul, committed and kind. He made a big impression on me and I'll never forget him. Love to you and Blake, Marilyn. He made a difference in this world.

I met Dave in Las Vegas before he traveled to Shreveport to run Dave's Joint. He made me laugh at that very first meeting and I laughed many more times with him until the end.
This MAN was one of a kind and Kathryn and I will surely miss him. Marilyn has all our very best wishes and love as she and the boys travel into the future.
Goodbye, Dave and get er done, as only you can.

Marilyn and Blake- may you both find peace and strength. Dave was one of a kind, there will never be another. He gave hope and skills to people who had very little hope in a town that could offer very little to them. Dave was the catalyst and the mentor to so many. Marilyn- you were his heart. Peace and love to you. RIP Dave.

Dave will be missed by so many. There was no one like him. He came to us all when we had slight hope of ever being able to take care of our families. He taught us so much.God has him now and I'm sure that Dave will be keeping him busy with all the stories of his career in the casino business. We will always cherish those years that he was in our lives, and all those trips we all took to the Whitehouse.

Dave Tannen was the biggest man I have ever known, big in stature, big in heart, big in everything that a person good. I was at a low point in my life when I met Dave, he helped me retain my belief in myself and gave me an opportunity at a career in gaming that changed my life and the lives of my four children. Dave was an honest and direct speaking man...if he said it you could take it to the bank. Someone was making fun of me on time and said that if Dave Tannen told you to jump off the Spring St. Bridge you would probably do it. I answered that I would because I would know he had my best interests in mind. Dave was and is my hero, if you are blessed you know a great person to look up to in your lifetime...I was blessed to have Dave as my boss and my friend and I will miss him. Prayers to his beautiful family.

I recently heard of Dave's passing and I am so sorry to hear about it. Dave was a good friend over all of the years that we worked together and past that as well. I have fond memories of listening to great music with Dave in and outside of work. He had such a great perspective on life and people, and a remarkable sense of humor that cut like a knife (in a good way). Dave will surely be missed and I look forward to listening to "Compared to What" with him again some day...
