My dearest Dave, my husband, my love,

Here it is a year after you left me. As fast as it has gone, as slowly am I to lift my head from my well of tears and broken heart. Months after you passed, I was looking through your computer to try and figure how I was going to deal with my life without you. And I found a love letter prepared by you to give me on Valentines Day, which would have been a month and a day after you went. Did you know you were not well? Were you just preparing in advance for this day set for lovers. I don't know, I will never know what you had in mind. What I am sure of is how much you loved me to prepare so early for Valentines Day. And I love you too Dave. You mean everything in the world to me, and my missing you is like a bottomless pit. (Below is what Dave wrote to me in a Valentine's Day card.)

Dear Sonia...

I know its true I have "my way"
But trust me dear when I say
You aren´t my valentine just today
But forever & always even after I pass away!

But I have learned so much more about you than I even knew. The admiration of the people who came to pay their respects, that sent letters to me about what you meant to them, those that planted trees in your name and sent flowers, and orchids and donations that were given to the leukemia foundation, all showed me how much your presence in their life meant to them. Even your customers sent me letters expressing their sadness at your loss, sharing with me how you intuitively knew the house they were looking for, even though they didn't know themselves. At your celebration of life, your closest friends gave testament to the impact you had on their life, and how devastated they were that you would not be apart of their everyday any longer. You were referred to by others as their "neighbor, friend, hero, idol, advisor, musician, prankster, ..." What an enormous impact you had not only on my life, but on the lives of your brother and sister, Steven and Gordan, on my children Lolly, and Roger and on my friends overseas, your clients, the neighbor, even acquaintances felt the massive loss your passing would have. What a man you were!

How can I thank all those that came to support my loss, share the memories and funny stories of you. Even on your death bed, in pain, you made fun with the nurses when they rushed to help you to breath and asked how you felt .... you looked at them, smiled and said "I feel so important". It was so you making jokes when no one expected it.

I don't need to tell the whole world what a great man you were, you told them that with the way you lived your life, and the respect, and kindness you gave to everyone, from the aging to children.

Thank you for my Valentines Day card that I arrived to me a couple of months after you passed away.

It has been a year that has no words to describe, I can't believe I survived such a loss.

I will keep this last Valentines card from you close to my heart . . . until we meet again my love.

Sonia,
Sending love your way! Dave was a special human being. We met Dave at an open house and we knew he was the realtor for us. Sonia you were so kind to play with our kids at times as we found our house in Robbinsville NJ. Dave had a unique ability to know what his clients were looking for even when they had no clue. We have been thinking about him a lot lately as we have been looking for a home. Back then he told us to write a letter with our offer as a way to personalize the interactions. It worked really well back then. I recently put a bid in on a home under asking price. They received 4 offers, with 2 over asking price, yet they accepted ours and from what we had heard it was due to the letter. During our purchase in 2012 you became family to Carolyn, myself and our 2 daughters. I have spoken to him a few times since you moved and it was like we were always friends, not a business relationship. I know he has impacted so many lives just as he did for us. You both will always have a special place in our hearts. Sending love your way! Frank Eliason (frank at frankeliason dot com if you ever want to get in contact)

Dave and Sonia introduced me to the woman who would become my wife - Georgy. Dave and I used to work out together and were both big Yankee fans. Dave and Sonia had the gift of always making their friends feel welcome in their home. We had many great times together.

We met Dave when we purchased the house next door. He was the realtor for the seller. He and Sonia became good friends of ours. We will miss his smiling face, his easy friendship, and his hand and foot techniques. Very sorry to learn of his passing.

David and I were first cousins, our dads Bunny (Tommy) and Joe, brothers growing up in the early part of the twentieth century. lost their mother way too early and were raised by our Jiddo, their father Sam, the North Star of their family. Perhaps the loss of their mother Mary kept them close, because when I began being aware of my uncles, they were always very happy to be together, and we as children were always excited to see our cousins. Unfortunately, I didn't see them enough because the Army took them to places not easy for us to visit. But, I always had love in my heart Gary, David and 'little' Judy. And, of course, their folks, Uncle Bunny and Aunt Winnie. I regret not being closer to them all, and wish I had been able to share music with Dave. Our Martin guitars would have loved that. Rest easy, cousin. I love you.

My memory is rich with times spent with Dave. We had many things in common from our Lebanese spouses, to our Lebanon jokes, love of the same eras in music, chocolate and cookies, our love for being alone. He was a comrade to me in more ways than I realized, until now, he will always be my family. Dave was a gentleman, welcoming my husband and I regardless if it was a day or a week stay, more often a week. My best friend is his wife Sonia and bringing Dave into her life, enriched all of our lives. I will miss and think of you everyday for the rest of my life Dave. God willing we will all meet again. Love forever and always my friend. Lillian
