SOUTH BEND - South Bend-David L. Thomas departed this world Today, February 6, 2017, for a much deserved place in Heaven after a long fight with Alzheimer's disease. David was born on November 13, 1925 in Grass Creek, IN to Frank and Grace (Huffman) Thomas and was the youngest of eight brothers and sisters, Charlotte, Dorothy, Bert, Bernice, Joe, Art, Arnold and Jay all who have preceded in death.

David leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Mary (Tabler) Thomas of South Bend. David and Mary were married January 15, 1950. He also leaves behind a son, David of Walkerton and daughter, Pam of South Bend. David has four grandchildren, Christine, Amy, David and Ryan and eight great grandchildren, all from Missouri. David also leave behind numerous nieces and nephews.

David served proudly during WWII, in the U. S. Navy, for 21 months on the LST 833, in the South Pacific Campaign. His ship supplied troops and equipment to Iwo Jima and Okinawa during those conflicts.

David worked for IBM for 32 years, retiring in 1986. Upon retirement, David and his wife, Mary were able to spend years seeing the United States and traveling abroad.

The family would like to give special thanks to Pastor Amber Litten and their extended family of the Coalbush United Methodist Church for the thoughts, prayers and support during his illness.

Visitation will be on Saturday, February 18 from 2 to 6 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be on Sunday, February 19 at 3 p.m., with visitation one hour prior in Coalbush United Methodist Church, Mishawaka.
