I remember Dr. David Turcke as young and handsome professor of Civil Engineering in 1975 when he just joined Queen's. He was full of energy and inspired everyone around him. I still remember his hand written notes for his graduate course on the Theory of Plates and Shells, and his teachings were un forgettable. As a person David was warm and engagging and will be greatly missed. ironically, i just heard the sad news today at a Queen's alumni function in Toronto.

I am very saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Turcke in the Queen's alumni review. He was a wonderful professor and head of the Civil Engineering department while I was studying Civil at Queen's from 95-99. He lead a new vision of engineering education which focused on more than just technical knowledge. He was a great mentor who always had time to meet with students. My condolences to his family and friends.

So sad to hear of Professor Turcke's passing. One of my favorite profs while at Queens Engineering he provided me with some of the most practical and useful lessons of my entire time there. I recall him saying, back in the late 1980's how we should not place too much importance on programming with Fortran and Cobol when almost all of what we would need to do as engineers could be done on spreadsheets and he was absolutely correct. Farewell to a fine teacher of important things and sincere condolences to his family.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dave through Joan. He is the kind of man that you would make time for because he was such a kind and gentle person. I will miss him........
In memories there is comfort, In time there is peace, in our hearts there is love. Thank you Dave for touching my life with your kindness. My deepest sympathies to Joan & family.

Dave was my classmate from grade one on. I am going to try to attach a little photo taken from the 1950 MRHS Torch. It shows Dave in his grade one class. Grade 1B with Mrs. Neale. He is the 6th boy from the right in the back row. We went all through school together. I am very sad today.

I knew Dave from the St. Vincent de Paul Society, for which we were both volunteers. I knew him to be kind, light-hearted and generous with his time. I will miss him!

As an educator, Dr. Turcke was an inspiration to literally hundreds (or maybe thousands?) of Civil Engineers, myself included. As a Department Head, he revolutionized and re-invigorated the Civil Engineering curriculum at Queen's. As a man, Dave was just a really solid guy.

A mentor, turned friend. Gone too soon. May his family and friends find peace and comfort in these difficult times, knowing how much "D.T." meant to so many people (especially this Civil '97 grad).

30 years after the fact, I still remember a graduate course I took from Professor Turke, his mastery of the subject and how well he engaged the students. I offer his family my condolences for your loss.
