David Wollaston Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 3, 2025.
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of David Eugene Wollaston who left us far too soon at the age of 56. He passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on August 29th at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington.

Dave was born on May 28th,1969 in Chicago, Illinois. He took great pride in his career as an airline mechanic, working at Goodrich Aerospace, then Boeing as a Flight Line Aviation Maintenance Technician. After his work career, he found joy in life's simple pleasures-working on his truck, heading out on the water with a fishing pole in hand, target shooting, woodworking or manning the grill. He had a deep love for animals, especially dogs, who always seemed to sense his gentle heart. More than anything, Dave valued peace and quiet, and he created a tranquil retreat in Brewster, Washington before passing due to complications of liver disease.

He held his family close to his heart, and he was especially protective of his children. His quiet strength and devotion to those he loved will be remembered as his greatest gift to us all.

Dave is survived by his children Jasmyne (Alan) Chase and Aidan Wollaston; his father Eugene Wollaston; his sister Caryn (Amy) Dideriksen. He is also survived by his first love and former wife, Amy Carey-Wollaston. He leaves behind his loyal canine companions, Sam and Walter, whom he loved more than most people. He was preceded in death by his mother Carolyn Wollaston.

A memorial will be held to honor his life on Saturday, September 20th at 11:00 AM at First Congregational Church in Naperville, Illinois. Portillo's lunch will be provided after the service in the church community room.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wenatchee Valley Humane Society, Animal Hospital of Omak or local animal shelter, a cause close to Dave's heart.

Dave was the first person I met when I moved to Naperville. I remember him riding in circles on his Raleigh bike in front of my house. I really wish I could have been at the memorial in Naperville. The entire Wollaston family was always so kind.

One winter, we turned a bike into a "snow bike" in Dave´s basement. We strapped a cross-country ski to the front and downhill skis to the back. Since nothing articulated, it was basically a death trap going downhill. It did move fast, but with a high center of gravity, turning or stopping wasn´t really an option. Still, we had so much fun.

This is for Mr. Wollaston. Dave always wore a jacket to dinner, but not because he was cold. The Wollastons were very healthy eaters, and Dave would secretly stuff his salad into his jacket pockets so he wouldn´t have to eat it.

Dave was a wonderful friend-loyal, kind, and generous to a fault. He would have given you anything he had. He will truly be missed.
