Vonore - TSGT (Ret) David Martin Wright, age 72, went home to be with his Lord and Savior unexpectedly on Tuesday June 3rd at the family home in Vonore, TN. Martin retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1995 with 20 years of exemplary service from Holloman AFB, NM with advanced training in Corrosion Control. He served several overseas assignments in the Philippines, S. Korea, and during Desert Shield in Saudi Arabia. Martin was an expert in preventing and repairing corrosion on aircraft bodies and restoring them to pristine condition. His skills were highly sought after and he was recruited by the Air Force's demonstration squadron, the Thunderbirds. He declined that opportunity in order to continue to concentrate on and be available for his young family. With his vast knowledge he was then able to use those skills on auto bodies in his retirement. His passion was the restoration of classic and antique vehicles. Martin was preceded in death by his parents David K. (2001) and Sue T. (Clabough) Wright (2021), all 4 grandparents, several aunts and uncles and an infant niece. His loving presence will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 38 years Song; daughters Theresa Irwin (Michael) of Sweetwater, and Susan Rossman (Michael) of Sacramento CA; 2 stepchildren Michelle Kirkland of Orlando, FL and Timothy Mullins of Lansing, MI; 4 grandchildren - Emily Irwin; Jude, Nathan and Trinity Rossman. He is also survived by 3 siblings - Charles Wright (Debbie) of New Market, TN; Jacqueline Flannagin and Jennifer Wright both of Maryville; four nieces and one nephew; several aunts, one uncle; and too many cousins to count. Martin was a born-again Christian, and we know he is in heaven singing in the choir with the family that passed before him and hugging his momma tight. Fly high with the angels, daddy and brother, we will always love you. Until we meet again in glory, fly high. The family will hold a memorial service with full military honors on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 1:00 PM in Smith's Trinity Chapel officiated by Rev. Greg Long.
