Dawn Diener Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 25, 2025.
It is with heavy hearts that we share, Dawn Marie Diener (Gockley, Yoder) passed away Friday, May 23rd 2025 after a courageous, decade long battle with breast cancer. She was 58 years old.

Born in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania on May 12, 1967, Dawn was vibrant and full of life from a young age. She graduated from Governor Mifflin High School where she was a cheerleader. Her outgoing and nurturing spirit led to a career of nearly three decades working as a registered nurse with Lancaster General and Women's & Babies hospital.

Outside of work, she lived a life full of joy, laughter, and an abundance of love. Out of all of her achievements, motherhood was undeniably her most cherished role. She raised her five children into fearless women who radiate her best qualities.

Dawn's memory will live on through her husband of 22 years, Mark Diener, and her daughters and sons-in-law: Marissa Yoder Mahoney and Matt Mahoney, Micayla and Jason Friedman, Maddie Diener, Monica Diener, and Melanie Diener. She is also survived by her parents, Sid and Donna Gockley, and her younger brother, Joel Gockley.

Dawn touched countless hearts throughout her life. She was full of encouragement and quick to offer a helping hand (and a loaf of sourdough) to everyone she encountered. Her favorite way to pass the time was soaking up the sunshine at the beach, with her toes in the sand. We will remember her for her love of flamingoes and bright yellow flowers.

Dawn's steadfast relationship with Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of her life, providing her with unwavering strength, especially during her illness. Her faith shined bright, even on her darkest days. She was a fearless warrior right up until her last breath.

We welcome all who loved and knew Dawn to come together this Sunday, June 1st, and commemorate her life. This date was held close to her heart, as it happens to be her and Mark's 22nd wedding anniversary.

Her memorial will be held from 4-6pm at the Worship Center, 2384 New Holland Pike, Lancaster, PA. It will be a time to share some favorite memories, honor her vibrant spirit, and find comfort in each other.

We kindly request that you wear bright colors, florals, or t-shirts with inspirational quotes, just like Dawn loved to do.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Hospice and Community Care, where they took such gentle care of Dawn in her last few months.

The family invites you to share your favorite memories and stories of Dawn below. Your remembrances will serve as a comforting tribute. As we mourn her passing, we find peace in knowing Dawn is finally pain-free and resting in the loving embrace of her Savior.

Mark and Family, We are saddened to hear of Dawn´s passing. What a courageous battle she fought and example she set, leaving a legacy for us all to continue fighting the good fight of faith. We wish many blessings on all today and in the days ahead, as we grieve her loss, but acknowledge Heaven´s gain as she joins the great cloud of witnesses. Curt and Cindy Flaharty

I know the passing of Dawn changes your family as she loved all of you, but the memories are many. She was always smiling, and her faith journey was amazing. She was vibrant and full of life. Even the continuing journey in life will not be easy for each of you without you, she will be with you in spirit. Praying for your guidance, peace and strength.

When I think of my 38 year friendship with Dawn the adjectives that come to mind to describe her are...strong, resilient, bold, inspirational, dynamic, competent, organized, compassionate, and nurturing. Yet the ones that stand out the most were her prayer warrior spirit and her faith filled sharing of God´s gift of salvation and eternal life. I will strive to be as bold as she was in sharing my faith. What an inspiration to us all!
I will miss her sage wisdom, her heartfelt prayers, and her handwritten thank you notes. I will cherish nature and beautiful sunrises in memory of my precious friend.
My heart is heavy for Mark and her amazing girls but rejoice that she is pain free and being honored in heaven for her work on this earth.

Our hearts are broken, but our lives have been forever changed having had Dawn come into them.
While it was only a few years ago, during her biggest battles, she inspired us, blessed us and reminded us of how we are to go through life here.
Her absolute joy in simply having her feet in the sand was a reminder to walk through every moment with hope, while resting in God's care, surrounded by the gifts of His creation.
The Light that radiated from Dawn was a constant reminder of Christ's care for her in providing a light to her path, and it became a beautiful light in our lives.
Dawn's unwavering faith in His Light and His Love was nothing shy of amazing and will live on in our hearts forever
Forever changed, forever grateful.....

Dawn brought so much love to our sessions at the YMCA- sharing inspiration, love, joy, presence, and her glowing Self. Her aura felt full and nourishing. Having the privilege of knowing her, I hope to share that beam she was able to share with everyone in a room with her. Sending love to her family and friends and gratitude for the time I was able to learn and be inspired by Dawn.

I worked many years in the NICU with Dawn. In fact, she was my preceptor! I am still working there (33years) in part due to her love and passion for the babies which she passed on to me. Marissa and Mikayla, you are the same ages as my kids and we had many play dates with you when you were little.
Wishing you peace and comfort during this difficult time.

Aunt DD was always so beautiful inside and out. To all of the family holidays, pool parties, birthdays, camping. So so many good memories. I continue to replay them in my head to keep her spirit high. Rock on in heaven my sweet aunt
