Dean was my PhD advisor from 1983-86. We had fun. It was an incredible educational experience for me and I learned so much about supporting individuals with complex needs. We used biofeedback to teach motor control and bowel continence with respect and humour. Thank you Dean.

Dean and I grew up together, his mother and mine were sisters. We lost touch through the years, seeing each other occasionally with life being so busy. I do hope his children and grandchildren find peace in knowing he was always a kind and loving person and will be missed by his cousins.

I had the opportunity to know Dean when I worked at Oregon Research Institute. I knew him as a happy, smiling, dedicated researcher who had a gift to innovate aids to assist children with a variety of mobility and sensory deficits. I had the opportunity to take Dean with me on an assessment of one of the most handicapped children I encounter during my work on a special education project. I was baffled at how to follow the protocol to get the data and upon contacting my supervisor who suggested I ask Dean to help with the assessment. I recorded the data as I sat mesmerized how lovingly Dean related to the little girl and how fascinated she was with him and performed beyond my expectations, obviously enjoying each and every moment. I learned so much in that specific encounter. I admired the research he did to explore how children with great limitations could move and participate in everyday life to the fullest extent--he gave them the boost they needed and it was inspiration to others who followed up on his beginnings. May he rest in peace knowing that we who worked with him appreciated his dedication and work.
