Dean Lovell Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Jan. 29, 2009.
LOVELL Dean Alan May 10, 1965 - January 22, 2009Dean died unexpectedly on January 22, after 24 hours of care that took him from his home on the mountain in Salmo, to Trail Hospital and finally Kelowna General. Our thanks to everyone who helped - for their respect and care handling this dear man. Dean leaves behind pretty well everyone. His father and mother, Mike and Pat (Paul), sisters Lori (Paul) and Tracy, nephews Adam, Greg, Cale, Joe and Ian, and niece Clair. He also left me - his wife - and not in the good way where I can go get him back. We love him so much, it seems impossible to imagine he is gone. So for now we will go shovel the arena, and maybe play one of his songs while we do it. We love you Dean. We will miss you forever. Services will be held at the Salmo Firehall this Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm with a bonfire on the mountain to follow.

When a daughter selects a life mate it can be quite traumatic for a father. After watching Shauna kiss a few frogs along the way it was such a blessing when she found her true prince - Dean. Dean was a perfect companion for our Shauna. He had great patience, tender love and caring, was a tireless worker and a devoted husband. His creative mind showed through in his music, lego creations and work on The Mountain.. His varied interests and contributions to those around him have been truly noteworthy. Dean, thank you for being a wonderful son-in-law and fulfilling husband to my daughter, Shauna. Together you brought The Mountain to life and gave great meaning to each others lives. I need not say anything more than "Thank you so much for your life and legacy".

Love and respect,

Wayne Pilling -( Father-in-Law).

My time to say something. I met Dean through Shauna and Laura (my wife) I had to pass the "Shauna" test and when I did Dean and I where already great friends. I miss the silence between us. Few words great understanding. Nothing to say, just do. Always loved his spirit his drive, music, lust for life, his lego.
He is (I refuse to talk in the past) one of the most inspiring , intelligent creative people I've ever met. What I loved most is that over time two couples could go on holidays and interchange any possible duo. Me and Dean collecting fire wood, the girls making the camp site. Laura and Dean going to town .... and so on. Just this perfect feeling of happiness.
Dean and I do syllacrostix together. Best times ever. We always buy 2 books because we don't see the point of sitting on each others lap.

Dean and I chop wood.
Dean and I clear land.
Dean and I drink beer.
Dean and I talk and dicuss
Dean and I love music

Dean and I loved each other

I miss Dean

Even though in our adult lives, Dean and I's paths rarely crossed, my memories of Dean childhood are as vivid as though they happened yesterday. I was blessed to grow up at Refuge Cove, with my own brother and our three wonderful cousins, Lori, Tracy and Dean. Our lives were interttwined in those early years, with much wonder and adventure! Some snippets of these memories...Dean starting the "Refgue Cove Rag" which was his own community newspaper with interviews, poems and articles from the locals. He was probably only 10, but he brought a sense of excitement and community our our little group, adults and kids alike. He was our own little journalist.
He was also our fearlees leader in all the games we used to play. He had such an amazing imagination which we were lucky enough to be a part of.

I remember he built his own "log" cabin , with small alders he cut down with a tiny axe. We were so impressed and he stressed it was an absolute secret from the adults. It even had an underground tunnel.

He also convinced all of us kids that his cat, an orange tabby named Mother, was actully a baby cougar. Of course we all believed him! We also sang Beatles songs non-stop, ate a special concoction called Woodchuck and had whilsting contests.....Then a wonderful memory from the teen years, Dean had moved to the city but when he came back, he had become SO cool. He came back to our little island with his own rock band, of which he was the star....and he basically, blew our minds. I'll never forget him doing Jumping Jack Flash on the porch of the school house. It was a magical moment that will always stay with me.
I send my love and blessings to all of Dean's wonderful family. He is truely missed and I feel greatly honored to have known him.

I loved the creativity of this man. His gentle manner was evident in all he did, from working on his lego, to his music, (although one saw another side of Dean when he was into that!) to woking on the land which he loved so much and being with Shauna. He was such a soulmate for our dear daughter and a valued member of our family. I love you Dean and will miss you. Mom Ev

Dean was a true renaissance man - musician, techno-geek, and of course, mad Lego-builder! I wish I'd known you better, Dean. What a tragedy ... you are missed.

Dean was an awesome person. He lived more in his young life than most of us would in 3 lives. I miss him everday and appreciate the time I had with him as a big brother and a friend. This is not the end......
