I met Dean the night I met Jim some 37 years ago. Jim and Dean were buddies.
Dean was Jim's best man at our wedding and you couldn't ask for a better man. There was always a smile on his face and a hand to offer help. Of course Arlene and I became best friends. We lived next to each other in Cloverdale and went through the trials and tribulations of marriage and children together.
We camped together in the summers and partied in the winters. Our kids grew up together.(two girls for them and two boys for us)Life took us apart but we never forgot the times we spent together. We were going to meet them in Arizona this past spring but a puppy got in the way. We regret that the connection wasn't made, but we can't turn back time.
Tears are clouding my eyes as I write this. We feel the pain of a life over too soon.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you Arlene and your children.
Take care,
Love you,
Jim and Laurie

When considering the many memories I have of my Uncle Dean there were two in particular that immediately came to mind which always make me smile when I think of them.
The first is running from the dreaded "claw" which merged a sense of terror with fun at the prospect of having Uncle Dean latch onto the top of your skull and the other is the
seemingly endless hours in the car travelling to Vedder River
listening to The Big Bopper on a continuous loop. Thanks to Uncle Dean
I'm one of four people under 50 that can sing Chantilly Lace from
start to finish.

I often think about what those summers of being outnumbered by females
(three of which were teens...yikes) would have been like for both of
us had we not had each other to bring some balance. For me it would
have been arduous to say the least. I looked forward to his arrival
home at the end of each day where he would be ready with a joke or
funny remark that would instantly relieve the tension often created by
spending all day with three screaming, hair pulling, kicking, biting
girls. I will miss him dearly but am forever grateful for the time I
had with him.

I will miss Dean so much. He was more of a brother to me than a brother inlaw and alway was. This past spring I had the luxury of spending 3 weeks with Arlene and Dean while in Phoenix. Each morning Dean and I sat side by side drinking coffe and talking for hours about everything under the sun. He was so dam funny telling endless stories (most of which we had all heard before a thousand times)but he never tired of stories about his life with Arlene, the girls and all of his grand kids. He always had a glint in his eye and a smile a mile wide. Life with out Dean will be very sad for us all. We wil miss him so much and feel blessed to have had him in our lives.

I will miss Dean, and my words can't tell you how much. He treated me like his younger brother which was an honor for me. The one thing that sticks out in my mind was how amazingly fair a man he was stuborn at times but never had a bad word about his friends or family. Thanks for that Dean.

Arlene I love you so much.

Even though we didn't talk much over the years, when we did talk it was like we had never been apart. He liked to tease me that he was my older brother and new so much more about life. I have so many good stories and memories about growing up and me being the bratty spoiled little sister. RIP Big Brother Dean, I love you.
