Deane Shure Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 14, 2024.
Deane Andrew Shure passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 9, 2024 in Sarasota, Florida. Born on April 27, 1942 in Washington, DC, he thrived in his career as an attorney and in his many philanthropic efforts.

For nearly 50 years, Deane's firm provided personalized legal services for civil and criminal cases in the greater Maryland, Washington, DC, and Virginia area. Having received his undergraduate degree from Allegheny College, he went on to earn his J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law. He remained active in alumni athletic programs, including launching the University of Maryland Terrapin Club, the official fundraising arm of Maryland Athletics.

Deane had deep respect and love for our veterans and served for 16 years on the board of Operation Second Chance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving wounded veterans. Deane also loved wildlife and nature and supported myriad organizations providing care to animals.

Deane loved his beloved property on Tilghman Island, MD, where he resided for close to 30 years before moving to Chester, MD, in 2023.

He is predeceased by his father, the Honorable Ralph G. Shure, and mother, Helen Louise Hilsenhoff Shure.

He is survived by his sister Lynda Jones, and brother-in-law, Dale Jones of TX, his daughter, Cara Bibbiani Martin and her husband Michael Martin of SC, 4 nieces; Rebecca Hemenway, Catherine Shure, Aneese Jones, Denise Morlin, a nephew James Jones, several great nieces and his extended surrogate family that loved him so much.

A celebration of life will be held on April 7th from 1:00-3:00 pm at Manor Country Club in Rockville, MD.

In lieu of flowers, it was Deane's request to have donations made to: Operation Second Chance.

Where would my life be if it wasn´t for Deane Shure?! I googled him to find his number cgecl on him and of course fill him in to get his expertise. Only to find out he passed away. A legendary man gone but never to be forgotten! I thank you Mr Shure for EVERYTHING over the years!

I was a young law student working for an estate attorney in the same Rockville building, when I first met Deane in 2002. I always admired his good looks, intelligence, and his suave way with the ladies. Later when I started my own solo practice, he sent me estate administration clients to help grow my practice. I was sad to hear he passed but I know he lived life to the fullest. Diana Gary

I knew Dean's father from Columbia Country Club before I meet Dean in the early, early 70s in the Jaycees. Later we both became very active in the Rockville Chamber of Commerce where we shared many mutual friends. What I remember most about Dean was he was always upbeat and went out of his way to make sure that he always said hi. Haven' seen Dean or any of his law associates since Dean moved to Florida. I was saddened to here that he passed away.

Deane was an upbeat , interesting and social person. We looked forward to seeing him. We enjoyed our many conversations with him when we attended Terrapin Club functions, including sporting events. He would always extend an invite to us to visit him at his beloved home on Tilghman Island. Regrettably, we never took him up on his offer.

I met Deane in the mid 1960s and, together with Jim Patton, we shared a great social life for many years. Deane had a great sense of humor, was considerate of others, and enjoyed life. Deane and I had taken some vacations together over time and enjoyed 1000s of laffs and created 1000s of laffs. Deane had a fire case with injuries and asked for me to be his expert witness since I had a degree in fire protection engineering and worked in fire research at NBS. He won his case and that started me on a path to becoming a well-known forensic engineer in 14 states. We probably worked 6-8 cases together. Deane was an honest and caring attorney at all times. I will miss him and regret that I didnt make that phone call to him just days before his passing. Deane cared about animal welfare and their care. He devoted a lot of his time to Wounded Warriors and cared greatly about them.

Deane was our neighbor for the past year. He was always so full of life and a very kind, generous, and thoughtful man. We are going to miss him terribly.

My husband and I Gary a wounded warrior we're honored to go to Tilghman Island to enjoy a beautiful day with Dean and operation second chance! It was fabulous. He did so much pro bono work for some of our Wounded Warriors and family members that's hard to find anymore. Such a kind man. Dean, you will be missed :-)
