Deborah Molyneux Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 19 to Mar. 30, 2023.
Deborah Scott Molyneux left us suddenly on March 17, 2023. Debbi was born in Wayland, New York to Robert and Agnes Scott on January 16, 1951 and grew up the middle child of two siblings, Robert and John. Following high school she left upstate New York to attend Endicott College and later Boston University. Her aspirations kept her tied to Boston where she established a career in banking with State Street Bank and met her former husband, Richard Molyneux. Together they had two children, Matthew and Amanda, to whom she devoted so much of herself that she left her banking career to raise them full time. She and the family lived in three different states together, but it was her time spent in Yarmouth, Maine that she was always most fond of. As her children grew up, she launched a second career as an interior decorator, which became her way of sharing her creative passion for making things joyous and beautiful with those around her. As much as she was a dedicated mother, she was also a doting daughter and cared for her mother in Albany, New York during her final years. After retirement, she eventually found her way back to her beloved Maine. Debbi spent her remaining summers at her home in South Portland and escaped winters in Naples, Florida.

Our mom, at her most genuine self, was a bright, affectionate, exuberant person. She managed to see mostly the good in things and possessed an unbounded sense of humor. Even in restaurants or movie theaters, there were few who laughed as loud or often. The joys of her life were unquestionably her children & grandchildren, her family, and friends, as well as art, books, tennis, and generally engaging in the things those dearest to her were interested in. We are deeply pained by her loss, but forever grateful for the life she shared with us.

She either volunteered at or cared most for the following causes and, in lieu of flowers, would be happiest with memorial gifts directed there: Equinox (equinoxinc.org), Planned Parenthood, and The Family Restored (thefamilyrestored.org). A celebration of Debbi's life will take place this summer in Portland, Maine. In the meantime, sympathies and memories are welcomed by contacting respective family members or by mailing to 4216 Van Ness St NW, Washington, DC 20016.

Amanda and Pat, I'm was so sorry to hear about Amanda's Mom. I remember her from the Schuyler Meadows tennis courts (so many years ago!), and know that she was an integral part of your life here in Maine. Sending love and big hugs from across town. Love, Jane, Tim, Caroline, and Matilda

So very sorry to learn of the passing of your mom. She and I use to pick strawberries together in the summers to earn money. Also, your grandmother and our mom were great friends and she was even in moms wedding. Your mom looked spot like her. My thoughts and prayers go out to you during this very difficult time. RIP Debbie.
