Remembering Her Life
Debra Ann Greene was born August 24, 1960, in Georgetown, South Carolina to the marital union of Mr. Richard Greene and Mrs. Thelma Drayton Greene.
Her father, two sisters, Betty Jo Greene, Carolyn Drayton, and a companion of many years, James Franklin Sumter, all preceded her in death.
Debra attended the public schools of Georgetown, South Carolina and was a 1978 graduate of Howard High School before entering Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina.
During her childhood, Debra attended Greater St. Stephen A.M.E, where she participated in Sunday School programs and served on the children’s choirs.
For a number of years, Debra worked as a housekeeper. She was employed at Pawleys Plantation for nearly fifteen years. However, she worked at the Best Western in Pawleys Island, South Carolina until illness intervened.
Debra departed her earthly life on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
She leaves to mourn her while cherishing fond memories: her loving mother, Thelma Greene; five children: Dwan “Patrice” Barber of Savannah, GA, Domonique C. Greene and Rudolph T. Charles III (Chelsy) of Georgetown, SC, and Iman R. Greene and Isiah J. Greene of Raleigh, NC,: nine grandchildren: Damontez Greene, Damiyah Greene, Janylah Charles, Chastity Vanderhost, Maliyah Simmons of Georgetown, SC, Zahyra Archie and Milan Greene of Raleigh, NC, Kyron Elmore of Andrews, SC, and Taleah Hemingway of Columbia, SC; a host of nieces and nephews, including seven who she helped raise: Pearline Drayton, Deneen Armstrong (Ernest), Tony Drayton, Derrick Stewart (Sharell), Jermaine Greene, Andrea Greene Flowers (Rutledge), Shari Greene; one brother: Willie Porcher (Roberta); two aunts: Willie Mae Drayton of Elizabeth, NJ and Sarah Robinson of Rochester, NY; and a host of other loving family, friends, including her lifelong best friend, Fannie Mae Golden, and two bonus children, Karla Boone and Ahrmaund “Dat” Jenkins.

It is never easy to find the words to express our feelings when there are no words that can fully capture the depth of what you all are feeling. Just know that I send my prayers and support to my niece, Patrice, and the entire Greene family during this difficult time.
