Debra (Debbie) Lane Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 20, 2024.
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Debra Lynn Lane who ended a long term battle with cancer on November 9, 2024.

Born April 12, 1961 in Washington D.C. to Gary Buchan and Antoinette (Ann) Atkinson, Debbie lived in Surry, VA the majority of her life.

Debbie was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved dog Rascal.

She is survived by brother Randy Olin; sister Cindy Giles; children April Lane, Alan Lane, Ashlynn Salmon, and Austin Deziel; grandchildren Tj, Riley, Zoey, Alexis, Alayna, Levi, and Sawyer; great grandchild Jasper; and numerous close friends she considered family.

Debbie was a determined and hard working individual, who dedicated many years of her life to her work at the Surry Power Station. Debbie loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved tending to her plants and had much more than a green thumb, she had a genuine gift with greenery. An artist of many mediums, Debbie loved painting most of all and would spend many hours indulging in her craft.

Weather permitting, most days Debbie could be found outside, preferably near the water, a "river rat" through and through. She had an infectious laugh and you could easily lose track of time sitting around talking and laughing with her.

Debbie will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure and honor of knowing her. The family will be holding a private memorial to celebrate her life on the river.

In lieu of flowers the family is asking donations be sent to VCU Massey Cancer Center in her memory.

I love you and miss you. You have been in my life since I was born. It's hard going forward knowing you aren't there. I will always hold close my memories when we were young as well as the more recent memories. Thank you for being there for me and listening to me and for just being my big sister. () Love, Cindy
