Debra Pinto Obituary

Published by Record-Journal on Jan. 5, 2010.
WEST HARTFORD - Debra (Debbie) A. Pinto, 55, of West Hartford, has gone to take her place in Heaven after a heroic fight with cancer, with her family at her side on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at Hartford Hospital.

Born in Meriden on Nov. 13, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Frank James and Mary Josephine (Lagana) Pinto and had resided in West Hartford for the past 14 years. She was a graduate of Platt High School, class of 1972. She was employed by New Departure before joining the U.S. Army, where she was stationed in Germany. She was a parishioner of St. Brigid Church in West Hartford and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She loved being a mom to her daughter and taking care of her family and putting them first, regardless of her illness. She was the best mother a daughter could ask for and when she smiled, she lit up the room.

She is survived by one daughter, Debra A. Pinto, of West Hartford; her life partner and best friend, Peter Mancini, of West Hartford; one sister, Marianne Cardona and her husband, Angelo, of Wallingford; one brother, Nicholas Pinto and his wife, Paula, of Newington; two nieces, Heather Shea, of West Hartford, and Kayla Pinto, of Meriden; four nephews, Anthony, Nicholas, and Christopher Cardona, of Wallingford, and Anthony Neri, of Newington. She was predeceased by a sister, Lynn (Pinto) Shea, who passed away this past February.

The funeral will be held Thursday, Jan. 7, at 10:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 11 a.m., at Our lady of Mount Carmel Church for a Mass of Christian burial. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday (TODAY) from 3 to 7 p.m. Should friends desire, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., P.O. Box 1004, Meriden, 06450-1004. www.jferryfh.com.

My deepest condolences, Debra and I were in the same platoon in Basic Training at Ft. McClellan. She was such a warm and kind person, despite the hard time the Drill Sergeants gave her. They called her 'Pinto Beans'. She held her head high and worked even harder. By the time we graduated, she had the respect of everyone in our Company. Rest in peace Debra, I haven't and won't forget you.

To Nick and His Family,
I am very sorry for your loss. Words cannot really change the way we feel when we lose someone we are close to, the only thing you can do to find comfort is to know that your beloved family member is no longer in pain and in the hands of God now. Remember all of the happy memories you have shared with her over the years and keep those very near and dear to your heart. May God be with you and your Family during this trying time and always.
