Delbert LeFevre

Sagerton, TX

Delbert Harold LeFevre passed away suddenly on May 23, 2016. He was 93 years old and was surrounded by family at the time of death. He was born in a farm house north of Rule, TX on December 12, 1922, the youngest child of Cliff and Alva LeFevre.

He grew up in Sagerton, Texas and graduated from Sagerton High School. He married Joyce Stegemoeller on July 6, 1943 while on leave from training in North Carolina. He flew several missions in the Pacific as a radio operator on a B-24, and was stationed in Okinawa at the end of WWII. After his discharge, he returned to make his home in Sagerton with Joyce and his first child, Linda, who was born during his deployment. In the years that followed, the family was completed with the birth of two sons, Larry and Kent, and another daughter, Jill.

He supported his family by farming, ranching, and training cutting horses and loved spending the day on the tractor even after he turned the farming operation over to Larry. He worked "in his spare time" as a rural mail carrier for the USPS for 30 years. Early on, he also worked for the county as a road grader operator and later as the manager of the Sagerton Cotton Gin. He often spoke, with great pride, about family and his almost 73 years of marriage to his best friend and the love of his life. He regularly announced to the entire family at Christmas and summer lake gatherings that he was happiest when the entire family was together. He was the ultimate example to all who knew him for how to show love for God, family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cliff Everett LeFevre and Alva Laughlin LeFevre, two sisters, Frances Clark and Mozelle Manske, and grandsons, Rus and Rob Bailey.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Stegemoeller LeFevre; two daughters, Linda LeFevre of Wylie, TX and Jill Brown of Sagerton, TX; two sons, Larry LeFevre and wife Susan of Rule, TX, and Kent LeFevre and wife Kathy of Tuscola, TX; grandchildren, Brad Bailey and wife Melissa of Plano, TX, Brian Bailey and wife Vonda of Wylie, TX, Larressa Earthman and husband Eric of Obrien, TX, Shane LeFevre and wife Julie of Rule TX, Kit LeFevre and wife Megan of Abilene, TX, Kinsey Brown of Fort Worth, TX, Tully Brown and wife Amanda of Lubbock TX, and Cade Brown of Meadow, TX; and 16 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on May 25, 2016 at Tankersley Funeral Home 807 S. Columbia St. in Stamford, TX from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be on May 26, 2016 at Sagerton Methodist Church at 2:00 PM with Rev. Stephanie Gilkey and Rev. Cory Graham officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Sagerton Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Fairview Cemetery Fund at 1730 F. M. 1661, Sagerton, Texas 79548.
