I will miss my long-time neighbor. It was just two months ago that we were
sitting at the Keg restaurant with another friend having dinner and then driving home telling jokes and laughing!
Gregg and Dora, I pray that God will
help you through this untimely event.

I had a nice visit with Mrs. Deloris Alex a couple weeks ago. But first, a digression: as a youth growing up, it seems all of us referred to our friends parents as Mr. or Mrs. And I have never outgrown that habit, even tho now when my kids friends call me by my first name it seems perfectly comfortable. Things change. Anyway, Mrs. Alex was the mother of my all time best friend, Joseph Preston Alex, Jr., ("Joe") whom I met when we started our high school careers at Prep. Mr. Alex (Joseph Preston, Sr.,) had been a friend of my dad's even before I met Joe. Mr. Alex had some pretty famous taverns and my dad did some legal work for him from time to time. During my high school years, there were a few parents who were like a second parent to me. Mrs. Alex was one of them and continued as a second and loving mother to me for over 45 years. I would chat with her frequently, see her from time to time and she would always place her love and concern for her friends and family first. She was and I know still is, so proud of her children, grandchildren and family. She bought new born gifts for my two kids (my 19 year old son still has the teddy bear she bought him when he was born). She called me when my best friend Joe passed away and she was a comfort to me on his passing, as I was totally overwhelmed in losing him. She was a steady rock and comforting influence in good times and bad. So when I heard that Mrs. Alex was at a convalescent home a couple weeks ago, I went to visit her. I was there about an hour and we had a great time visiting and reminiscing. She was as sharp and humorous as ever. We talked about the first time I met Joe: 1961 at a high school debate tournament at SPC; Joe was holding forth surrounded by a gaggle of girls and envious guys. She reminded me of the time she busted me, Joe, Fisher, Logan and Aylward when we were drinking beer at the Alex's house. Mrs. Alex had left for work around noon and we figured we could hoist a few. She knew what we were up to and doubled back. Our group of 18 year old boys were totally shocked when she burst in: "I know what you boys are doing! That's enough! Now pour them out!" We could never put anything past her!
My mom is not in the best of health and during our visit Mrs. Alex said to say hello to her; that she was thinking of her. A day or two later, I told my mom and my mom's face lit up! Even tho Mrs. Alex is no longer here with us on earth, I know her kindness and spirit will always be with us. So, my love to you Mrs. Alex and thanks for being like a mother to me! Rob Keefe

Gregg:
I'm sorry to hear of your Mother's passing.
I'm quite certain she spent at least the last 61 years of her life proud of the son she raised. You've made a huge difference in so many lives, and what more could a mother ask for...
Blessings and peace to you Gregg.
