Denis William Wiedel

1934 - 2014

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, died at home on April 19 after losing a battle with cancer.

Denis was born and raised on a farm in Hebron, Nebraska on July 19, 1934, and then moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma when he was sixteen. There, he worked a thousand-acre farm until he joined the U.S. Navy in 1952. As a part of his military service, he became a Machinist Mate on the USS Essex Aircraft Carrier, and served in both China and Korea.

He married Theresa Boes on June 1, 1957 in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and then moved to Tulsa, where their first child was born. After a year, his family settled in Northern California, where he and Theresa had five more children. While living in Redding, he worked at the Holiday Market for 35 years. He also served as a volunteer fire chief for the Centerville Fire Department, as a 4-H Leader, and as an usher at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church. He enjoyed bowling, square dancing, dancing at the local Moose Lodge, playing cards, and attending his children's many livestock, horse shows, and sporting events, as well as camping with his family.

In retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his big and loving family, golfing at Allen's Golf Course, cutting wood, and visiting numerous relatives in many states. He also loved puzzles and games, including Sudoku, Tetris, card games, and Scrabble. He also enjoyed reading Western novels.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Corinne, as well as by his parents and his brothers George, Jim, and Arthur.

He is survived by his wife Theresa, his two brothers Tom Wiedel and David Wiedel, and his sister Becky Rodgers. He is also survived by his three daughters Brenda Bailey, Denise Andresen, and Wendy Wells, and his two sons Guy Wiedel and Jesse Wiedel. He also has fourteen grandchildren, Aaron, Nic, Jayson, Mina, Masam, Dustin, Cary, Claire, Melissa, Brianna, Christina, Jen, Joe, and Coleman, and six great-grandchildren, Kaylynn, Kendra, Charlie, Wesley, Benny, and Jayden.

The Visitation and Rosary for Denis will be held on Thursday April 24 at 7:15pm at Allen & Dahl Funeral Chapel on Eureka Way in Redding, and the Funeral Mass will be held on Friday April 25 at 10:00 am at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Redding. After the service at Saint Joseph's Church, the burial will take place at Saint Joseph's Cemetery.
