Denney Lee Dodd, a friend to everyone he met, passed into eternal life with Jesus on Saturday, June 21, 2025 after drifting off to sleep for the last time. He was born in Springtown, Texas on Oct. 15, 1939 and moved to Krum when he was 18 months old where he resided the rest of his life. Denney went to Krum schools from first grade to graduation right alongside a classmate, Susan Barthold whom he married on April 19, 1958.
Denney was a member of the national guard in his early 20's but later on met his calling when he began working for Davis Concrete in Denton as a concrete salesman and what a salesman he was! He worked for and ran that concrete plant for 43 years owned by the Davis family
who treated him like their own, bestowing the title on him 'Denney Dodd the concrete god' a title he wore with pride. Denney's concrete sales laid the foundations for Peterbilt Motors, Tetra Pak and the Lake Ray Roberts dam, along with many other businesses, subdivisions and
countless homes in the Denton County area.
Back in his earlier days, Denney was an amazing catcher of fast pitch softball leagues. He caught for some of the best pitchers in Texas, and many weekends he would take Susan and his 3 young boys on weekend softball tournaments throughout Texas and Oklahoma. Denney
loved baseball, basketball and golf, and he was proficient at all three. When he retired in 2002, Denney enjoyed playing golf with his golf buddies until sadly his health wouldn't permit it any longer. Denney was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2016 when he had surgery and was
cancer free since that time. Unfortunately, he was recently plagued with other health issues and fought these head on, until he could fight no longer.
Everyone who knew Denney considered him a true friend. He had a remarkable way of becoming a favorite to all. He had a countless number of friends and lots of favorites, and if you're reading this, you're probably one of them! Denney's infectious humor and his loving way of playfully giving people a hard time were just some of the reasons he was so cherished. To meet him was to never forget him. Denney loved being a grandfather more than anything and his grandchildren adored him calling him DeDodd from the time they could talk which their friends called him as well. Denney loved his multitude of friends, and some special ones he carried near to his heart; Lance, Nardeen, Nash and Finley Boxell, Jimmy Vardell and Dan Ford as well as his poker buddies.
Denney was preceded in death by his mother and father, Blanche and C.D. "Bud" Dodd of Krum and his brother Dan Dodd of Argyle.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Susan Barthold Dodd, of Krum; his 3 sons, Dr. Russell Dodd and wife Karla, of San Antonio; Kenneth and wife Kay Dodd, of Krum, and Ron Dodd, of Brookly, NY. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Sgt. Sean Dodd of the United States Army stationed in Ohama, Nebraska; Kelly Foster and husband Blaze of Raleigh, NC; Klay Dodd and wife Chloe of Corinth; Katy Bone and husband Cody of Columbia, SC and Kooper Dodd and wife Chainey of Krum; 7 great grandchildren, Asher, Lectie and Skylar Dodd, Correy, Daivy Kay and Teddy Bone, and Emery Dodd. His brother Don Dodd and wife Robbyn of Fredericksburg, Texas, and sister Kathryn Dodd of Sanger and friend Nancy Stevens, and his sister-in-law Dorothy Dodd of Justin. Denney will be deeply missed by his numerous nieces and nephews, extended family members, and a wide circle of friends!
Memorial service will be Saturday, June 28 at 11:00 am at Blue Mound United Methodist Church (8421 N Interstate 35,
Denton, TX 76207) with a visitation preceding at 10:00 am. Honorary pallbearers are Lance Boxell, Nash Boxell, Jimmy Vardell, Klay Dodd, Kooper Dodd and Sean Dodd.
