Tottie, I am so sorry for your loss. I have many happy memories of our time together at First Lutheran. No matter what was going on Dennis never lost his kind spirit and sense of humor. Frank and many more of his friends are keeping him company in Heaven and saving a place for us. Thank the Lord.

It hurts to say "see you later" to someone who has loved so well. He was a good friend to my parents and is remembered warmly by any who knew him well. It's hard to improve heaven, but it is improved by his laughter.

My condolences to the entire family. I can remember him and my father working on his Ford Courier pickup together, and sleeping on the huge wooden bunk beds he gave us. I remember a very nice but firm father figure more than 40 years back. God's peace be with you all.

I have fond memories of a very nice man who I called "Mr. Abeyta" when I attended First Lutheran Church all those years ago. I remember him being very dedicated as were his family members. My heart goes out to Tottie, Sheila and the whole family. May you feel the Lord's Comforting Presence.

Dennis Abeyta was the oldest of 5 children. He was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The family moved to California in 1952. We packed up a Stationwagon and towed a trailer to Los Angeles. Initially, we stayed with Walter's Mother, Carmen. Later, we purchased a home on Long Street. it was a small, two bedroom home, Dennis slept on a cot in the Service Porch area,my two sisters and I shared one bedroom and we all slept in one bed. Mom and Dad were in the the other bedroom and my youngest brother, Michael was in his crib in their room. I remember growing up in the house on Long Street. After a few years we moved to 63rd Street. It was about a block away, but it had three bedrooms, and we converted a patio into a rumpus room. We watched TV in there and it had a couch that opened into a bed. I remember having slumber parties in there. Some years later we installed a swimming pool in the back yard. We thought we were living the Good Life. While Dennis was in High School, he ran Track. He was fast, he used to run around the track at school. He entered many competitions, and did well at the sport. When Dennis was 17 years old, he signed up for the Navy. He traveled and saw the world. He loved Japan. I remember when he came home, he had presents for everyone. He was so handsome in his Sailor Uniform. That is one of my fondest memories of Dennis.
