Dennis McCarron Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 26, 2025.
Dennis Frank McCarron, 79, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and his loyal companion, Chewy.

Born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota on March 15, 1946 to Helen and Kenneth McCarron. Dennis attended Humboldt High School, where he was a legendary athlete, excelling in football and track. His natural talent and competitive spirit made him unforgettable to those who watched him play. Shortly after high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving his country honorably during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, Dennis met the love of his life, Linda, and the two quickly married, beginning a lifelong adventure together.

In 1971, they moved to Florida and became the proud owners of the Island Pub on Fort Myers Beach, where Dennis took on the role of head chef. However, their deep love for the outdoors led them to a new path in 1974 when they established Island Mowing Service, a landscaping business they dedicated themselves to for over 40 years before passing it down to their son, Matt.

Dennis had a gift for mentoring young people, teaching them about the outdoors, landscaping, fishing, and even life skills like fixing things and coaching sports. He was a true jack-of-all-trades, always eager to share his knowledge with anyone willing to learn especially to his son Matt and son-in-law Jody. Known for his humor and larger-than-life personality, Dennis was the life of every gathering. His signature toast-"First one today!"-became legendary, no matter what number drink he was on. His quick wit kept everyone on their toes, with classic lines like, "Did you get the number of that truck?" followed by the inevitable punchline that never failed to make people laugh.

Weekends were best spent outdoors for Dennis-boating, camping, hunting, or fishing.

His adventurous spirit and love for life will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Dennis's love, laughter, and life lessons will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

Dennis is survived by his devoted wife, Linda McCarron, his children Tammy (Jody) Jackson and Matt (Dana) McCarron, and his five grandchildren, Shelbi Hiles, Alexander Jackson, Tyler Jackson, Hudson McCarron, and Madelyn McCarron, whom he absolutely adored. He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Melinda Hiles. His loyal companion Chewy, never left his side and remained with him until the end.

A graveside service will be held on April 5, at 11am at Hodges Lee Memorial Park 12777 SR 82 Lehigh, Florida. Immediately following there will be a celebration of life at the McCarrons home.

Dennis always preferred a relaxed and comfortable style, so we encourage you to wear casual attire to his celebration of life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to Hope Hospice or veteran's organization of choice.

It´s so hard to start when there´s so many things that I want to say. I met the McCarron`s when I moved into their duplex with my husband Dennis and our son Casey. It was shortly before the shrimp festival so those who know the McCarron`s know how they party during the shrimp festival. These were the days when they brought the after party home. I knew I had found the right place. They took me in and made me feel instantly welcome. From the fish fry´s in the backyard that we had, Dennis on the oyster cracker., Hearing the island mowing truck back up next to our unit every morning because as hard as they partied, they worked equally hard. I also met Melinda. Who became my best friend instantly. And shared her family with me. From Keys trips to camping trips to all sorts of boating, and beach houses, Dennis and his family welcomed us in like we were their own. They shared so many beautiful things with me, and it was always a guaranteed good time. Lots of laughs lots of drinks and you know the water or the beach were involved, SO much fun!
Thank you so much for sharing your family with me Dennis. I could go on forever so many good times. But I´m off to celebrate you with your people. And have " the first one of the day." I know for sure more than a few of my people are gonna be with you today as well. It was nice knowing you, big guy, until we meet again. Please give my girl a big hug for me.

Goodbye for now, Dennis.
You were truly one of a kind-always smiling, always ready with a surprise, and always bringing light into any room you entered. You had a warmth that made people feel instantly welcome, and a spirit that was impossible to forget. You were our own personal Santa. What an amazing man you were. You will be deeply missed, but never ever forgotten.

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of Dennis and the joy he brought to our lives. We find comfort in knowing that every scar has been healed and every tear wiped away in Your presence. Hold him close, Lord, until we meet again. Amen.

Papa, thank you for all the amazing memories you gave to me and the whole family. You along with grandma created nothing short of a chaotic, happy, loving, tight-knit, huge and joyous family just by finding love within each other. I´m so blessed to have know you as my papa and someone I look up to. Thank you for making all the kids dreams and wishes come true as Santa Claus. Thank you for all the amazing trips we shared in the RV, from Wisconsin to Minnesota, to North Carolina to Seattle and all the way to Alaska! Thank you for all your support, care, and encouragement throughout my years of growing up. You were so strong and courageous and never failed to make everyone around you laugh. We will keep your famous phrase "first one today!" in the family for generations to come. I hope you´re at peace with my mom now and I pray you guys are filled with love and serenity. Please give her many many hugs and kisses for me. I look forward to the day I rejoice with both of you, but know I will keep your legacies alive while I´m still here on earth. I love you and will miss you forever. Until we meet again -Shelbi
