I was saddened to learn of Den Brown's passing when I read the column in the Ottawa Citizen this week. As a former member of the Rideau Park United Church Youth Council, I fondly remember the support and generosity he showed to our group, especially the invitations for swimming and BBQ at db farms and his participation in our bus trip to New York and Washington in August 1976. I also remember his son Doug whose tragic death in August of 1979 shocked and saddened us all. I would like to extend my condolences to Mrs. Brown and family.

Mrs. Brown and Family,
Sadly, my parents are away in Australia and it is with sincere sadness that I write this comment on behalf of my family. Denny was so much more than just a friend to our family, he resembled more of an icon. Each of us have fond memories of this great man and will never forget what he has contributed to our family on so many levels. We have been true fans of your husband and father and hold our memories dear. Please know that we are thinking of you all at this very difficult time and have nothing but celebration in our hearts for the wonderful man that Denny was. It is evident in each of you how amazing a father and husband he was and how truly kind his heart was towards others. Our prayers are with you.

The Brown Family: I wish to express my condolences on the passing of Des. I appreciated knowing and also his support through my many years in political life. His advice and sometimes his forceful way of convincing me to chage directions--sometimes successfully. Des will truly be missed in our Community. I trust the Lord will comfort you at this time.
